Thanks David.
I've built a shelter for the Trillium.

Also I live near Victoria, so snow isn't a big issue.
In view of that, do you think the pole is important? I was going to cover the backsplash with 3/4" ply and do a mosaic backsplash, but the real intent of the ply was to stiffen that wall.

I think that you have retained most of the structure on the kitchen side. Since snow load is not an issue, I don't think you need to put in a pole.

It is something I plan to add to all my 4500's. The roof, above the kitchen, on my three 4500's all pool water there. Less of an issue on my 1300's.

Doug, I did a similar mod with our Scamp 13 in order to squeeze in a larger bed. When I saw how you finished out the sink and counter (nice work!) I thought I'd share the attached pics. The cut out closet is faced with 1 x 3. partly to add strength, partly to visually tie it in with the other cabinetry.

Our unit came from the factory with a rooftop AC. Interestingly, with the stock set up the roof showed a slight sag. After the mods - and it's been almost three years with plenty of road miles - no sag. I did make an effort to build in some structural support and I'm thinking it was worth the extra time and effort.

Hey Raz, thanks for your curiosity.
This has sure been an enjoyable project. It is still in progress,but we hope to take it camping in two weeks.
The painting was time consuming.


I used Interlux Brightside and did the roll and tip. It worked well.
The bed has been finished for some time.

We have tried to assess loss and gain with the larger bed and there is very little loss. Of course we no longer have a dinette and the closet is gone, but we now sit and eat in the new seats (see below) and with the bed more or less permanent, we have a large storage space under the bed (more than makes up for the missing lower part of the closet).
The kitchen is shorter, but has lost no functionality.

We have gutted the front goucho, and added some comfy chairs.

I just picked up new flooring today, and I will make a flip up table between the chairs.
Also I added a little instrumentation to monitor battery and fridge temperature.

Hey Doug, just a note on having a table for eating. In 30 years of having RVs I don't think we've really sat at the table inside more than a couple dozen times to eat. The kids when they were under eight years old did and then followed our lead later. I do tend to sit at the table with coffee and read in the morning if I'm camping by myself. A folding chair with a side flip up table works for me. YMMV

I do have pictures , but we are off in the wilderness until about Sept 23 and I don't have access to them, but will get them to you then. We did retain the stove and sink but rotated each 90 degrees to shorten the kitchen.

Yes we did retain the cooktop, but had to mount it 90 degrees rotated from the original mount.

Here is the kitchen top and the hole on the left is the original sink but rotated, and the hole on the right (above the fridge) is the original cooktop rotated.

Doug---do I understand correctly from the last photo---do you sleep with your feet at the sink-end? Otherwise I couldn't see the benefit of widening the bed (if your head is beside the sink).....

You've done a great job and it looks amazing.

Actually we usually have slept with our heads at the drivers side, but sometimes with our heads at the passenger side. Connie sleeps towards the hitch and I sleep towards the back. She says she has a relationship with that wooden corner by the sink, but has gotten used to it. I have a relationship with the brackets that used to hold up the back of the table, so I am going to remove them.

It must be roomier at the sink-end (driver's side) than I imagine. Have you banged your noggin on the sink?
....I know I would roll over and whack mine!

For now, I will remain simply envious.
