Door rebuild, 1980 Trillium 5500

I'm in the process of rebuilding the door on my Trillium, With the rotten wood inner frame the door came apart quite easily. I noticed a long metal rod in- bedded in the wood, on the door lock side with a nut on each end. Anyone know what this is for? Does it need to go back when I rebuild? I'm planning to replace all wood and then reinstall with wood screws instead of big staples.

Please post pictures of your door job if you can.
I will follow this thread with great interest.

I took the entire door & frame assembly off mine last month to fix rotten wood on the floor and entry step support.
I haven't touched the door itself, but I'll probably have to replace the lock, and maybe the aluminium sheet on the outside that has some scratches and dimples and doesn't look too good.

That metal rod wit a nut a each end, this sound like a stiffening rod.
