Re-Seating an Acrylic Dome Skylight

The seals for our acrylic domed skylight on our 1972 Play-Pac Hitch Hut is acting more like a seive than something approaching watertight.

Anybody have any advice for how to remove the inches of silicone and then re-seating the thing so it's weatherproof?

We've removed the interior insulation, so we're down to fiberglass on the inside. The outside of the trailer had a waterproof skin laid down all over it, but it's leaking all around the skylight (as well as most of the other windows

I have a very complete fabrication shop, so I can make whatever necessary, so I was thinking a plastic mounting ring that's resin'ed into the room, then gaskets above and below the acrylic with a screwed down right to seal it, though that's seems a little overkill.

Anybody have any experience with a good way to mount these?

I hate that crap. Silicone can be removed with plastic (non-serrated) knives, fingernails, sweat and a bunch of swear words. Whatever you do, don't use a metal tool and gouge at the gelcoat... but, you know that.

Surely a Play Pac owner will come along soon...

Best of luck!

This works good, might take a couple of applications depending on your amount of goo. Be sure to read the hints in the product reviews.

Then you might try 3m VHB tape. It comes in clear if you don't want it to show.

Dodger, help me

I have a giant hole where my skylight goes. Could you please send me pictures of yours when you get it out and how it was mounted since you have removed down to the fiberglass.
Thanks a million
