ParkLiner has this new elegant tongue mounted
battery box. The only problem is you have to remove the
propane tanks to get to the top of the
battery box, then you have to remove the difficult-to-remove screws they use to hold the top down, and then you can get to the batteries! Hmm.
I already re-positioned the top (they mounted it crooked at the factory!) then drilled and tapped 5/16-24 holes to make it easy to attach and remove. But I was concerned with the difficulty of getting to the batteries, so did something many hot rodders do - installed remote
battery posts. These can be used for my trickle charger to keep the batteries topped off during the winter, but could also be used with a
solar panel, or electric tongue jack, just with alligator clips. Easy, and no wrestling with
propane tanks and all to do it.
I had some scrap aluminum angle around, drilled the 1-1/4" holes needed to mount the battery posts with a cheap step drill bit from Harbor Freight, and mounted it with the same self-tapping screws
ParkLiner uses for all their frame-mounted stuff.
I still need to liquid-electric-tape all my connections, but will do that Saturday when I do all the other unprotected crimp connections under the trailer. It is amazing to me that
ParkLiner (namely Chandler) doesn't seem to think these under carriage crimped connections need protection. I disagree.
