SOLD: 1985 Scamp, raised and ruggedized

Our Scamp has been a good trailer, but we're not using it much anymore. Maybe it's time to let it go. So here's what we've got- a 1985 Scamp 16 in excellent running condition. The original bathroom and water tank was removed by a previous owner, who wanted the lightest and largest trailer possible. That goal was achieved. I've weighed this empty at 1850 lbs, and loaded for the road at one ton. For years, we towed it with a Subaru Forester.

The most unusual thing about this Scamp is its reinforced frame tongue (double thickness) and raised axle (approx. 14 inches of ground clearance below the frame rail). Check the photo for proof of the ride height. This trailer is ready for off-road adventures, if you are.

My maintenance and mods include:
-- a Prodigy RF brake controller with hand-held remote, so no vehicle modifications are required to use the brakes (one year old).
-- a MaxxFan, for active and passive ventilation, rain or shine.
-- the original roof vent/escape hatch was replaced last year, too.
-- a Suburban Furnace installed in a box opposite the door (takes up no cabinet space that way). It's three years old.
-- three new Goodyear Marathon tires and new wheel bearings (last year).

The interior is all original in Scamp beige. That means two front bunks, some stains on the beige carpet and door, but nothing nasty. With some TLC and minor updates, it could look a lot better, but everything works. The cooktop cabinet has an oak front.
The exterior has one strong but visible repair on the right rear corner. I've removed the big Scamp decals from the side.

Asking price--- $6800.

This trailer can be seen in suburban Denver. Let me know if you have any questions. We're selling it to pay for some house repairs, and we might replace it with a smaller trailer later on.

It was an '04 xs, non-turbo. My experiences were chronicled here, so you can fund the details by searching. Our trailer went a long way behind that car. It always felt safe, but I wouldn't recommend it. There was no way to remedy the rear end sag caused by a 180 lb tongue weight. Our VW Tiguan does a much. much better job, with no noticeable sag and plenty of power to spare.

Hello John,

We live in Steamboat and are interested in your camper. May I please see photos of the interior? You can text them to me--I'll privately send you my cell number if you wish, or post them here, whatever is easiest. Thanks, Megan

Sure, tomorrow. It also serves as our walk-in gear closet, so it will take some cleaning out. Thanks for your interest. If we lived in Steamboat, we'd probably be keeping it!

Here's the interior. Its dated, but decent. The next thing I would do is cut a nice carpet remnant to fit and simply lay it into the main floor area.

If you PM me your phone number, I can give you a call.

Well, you could install a bathroom. As the photos show, it's all been removed but the "water fill" nozzle on the rear corner. This trailer is wide open and spacious, but it's not equipped with a bathroom, just a chemical toilet.

PRICE DROP- to $6200

No responses in three weeks. What does that mean? Is nobody here buying trailers anymore? If the issue is price, I'll offer this discount.

Yes. Now the lower closet boxed space is the perfect size and place to store folding camp chairs. and hiking poles.
