Thinking of selling my 78 Trillium 4500. I bought a 2002 Casita 17 because the girls wanted a closed door bathroom. I like the Trillium better. It has larger windows that can be open in a light rain with much better air flow. It weighs 1000 lbs less than the Casita and looks prettier. The Trillium is actually bigger inside because the Casita has more tumblehome curve to the sides and the bathroom takes up more than the extra 2 feet gained over the Trillium. Now for condition my Trillium is close to original. The cushions were recovered last year in blue. I did not cover the top bunk cushion of the bunk beds, but it is available to go with the camper. All the windows were removed and backing checked then rebedded the tires are about 4 years old on 4 year old galvanized rims with about 2000 miles on them. Before I bought the Casita I was going to paint the center panel between the belly band and the lower stripe to match my truck, not done yet as a new owner might have a different idea. I removed the belly band rub rail, removed the steel washer nuts from the gap, then filled and fiberglassed the belly seam which is now in epoxy primer about 4 inches wide. The rest of the outside is the original cream gel coat. The original fridge still works and freezes. Comes with the standard electrical system plus a house battery. Stove top, sink, outside water hook up to sink, electric cord for hookup. There is a water tank under the floor which I have not used, but looks good, may need a new hose to the hand pump, never used the hand pump so cannot say as to working or not. Gas heater, but I have not used it. Has inside shelving with front and rear sliding doors. The interior lights all work (as do the outside lights ), but they are original and some of the trim stripes on the lights are scurffy. I had on my list the thought of replacing the light fixtures someday with LED, still to do. I have some new outside lettering graphics to install plus general restripeing to be done. Price will be negotiable from $ 4500 as is to $5500 as I complete the outside cosmetics etc. PM me for phone number or email and I can provide pictures. My intention is to finish up the outside and a few inside cosmetics then post it on ebay in May, but thought I would list it here first at the lower price. I have a total of over $5500 in the Trillium to date, but that is half the cost of the pre-owned Casita I bought. I would keep the Trillium, but the girls demanded a door to the bathroom so to keep the peace that is the way I have to go. - Dan -

Why not try the hand pump and the gas heater so you can post that they do or do not work?

Trailer is in Fort Lauderdale. Since I used the trailer 3 times each Florida winter for abot a week to 10 days at a time it never got cold enough to try the heater. Will have to read the manual to figure out how it works. This is the non fan standard heater lp. I would have to put water into the tank to use the hand pump and i don't want to leave water in the tank to become stagnant. I will take some pictures over the weekend. I will try to post a couple of them, but for a larger number I think a direct email woul be better for those who whis to delve deeper into prospect of purchasing this Trillium. - Dan -

Is the trillium 15 ft? Do you know the weight empty? I am interested but would need to see lots of pics since I am in Indiana. I must sleep 4 so need bunks and I dont want a bathroom so yours sounds like what I want. Do you have a closet that can hold a portopotty? I would prefer the lower price and no more improvements. Lyn, A 4500 is a 15' trailer. The empty weight would be in the 1700 to 2000 lb area. Trillium put a Porta Potty garage under the front gaucho, right beside the trailer door.

Sherwood, Even the factory, front bathroom version of this trailer did not have a shower. An outside shower is possible, if a hot water heater has been added. There are other options, like a shower tent with a Coleman portable on demand water heater is what I do.

Update , the empty weight of the 4500 is listed as 1375 lbs and max loaded weight is 2000 lbs. My 4500 does not have the cut out under the front bunk for a slide in porta potty. It has a door under the bunk for storage and a top removable access port under the bunk. I have seen some 4500's modified for a porta potty storage here and others modded to a 2 seat small dinette in fron instead of the two bunk beds. I think mine is as originally made in 78. - Dan -

Dan, A couple of observations:
- The non opening window on your door makes me wonder about the year of your trailer. Is there a bulge in your kitchen to accommodate a larger fridge?:

- The belly band on your trailer has been repaired. This is a major maintenance item on Trillium trailers. One of four. The windows, the door, and the axle are the other three. I would say that your trailer is more valuable for the fact that a prospective buyer will know that the belly band will not have any leaks.

- I am not sure where the 1375 lb weight comes from, but I can guarantee you that even if you took out everything that is not bolted down, you would not get down to that weight. When the 4500 was being manufactured by Tom Young he listed the empty weight as 1700 lb.
Back in the day they were trying to sell to a wider audience, so they underestimated the weight. This allowed them to sell trailers to someone with a class 1 hitch.

I very much look forward to interior pictures.

BTW: While some have modified Trilliums to have a front dinette, Most of the ones I have seen are factory. After 1979, they all had the required fibreglass in the front for the dinette seats, even if they were set up as a front gaucho. The front bathroom models did not have the seats, of course. The garage I was referring to is the door in the front of the gaucho that is closest to the entry door for the trailer. Large enough for a short porta potty.

The serial number on this trilluim is 45-1100216. The title says 78, but after a few different states of registry and maybe Canada too the date may have wandered. The fridge closet door placard says Dometic RM 211TF. The cabinet that holds the fridge is flat faced , but the base near the floor under the fridge has a small rise out about an inch. Single drawer above the fridge, single drawer left side above lower large open space door. I got the 1375 empty weight from period literature. I will say the Casita 17 is at least half again heavier if not more. I towed this Trilluim from Michigan over the mountains of West Virginia to Fort Lauderdale about 5 years ago with a VW Jetta non-tubo 95 hp diesel. Stable to 65 mph, but I would recommend a bit larger tow vehicle. I now use a Ram 1500. I will set up the interior over the weekend for pictures. - Dan-

Dan, Both the serial number, and the kitchen style point to a 1977. Not that it makes much difference.
The next thing I would ask, is it a Deluxe? The deluxe package consisted of a door window, (yours has one) a three burner stove, furnace, shelves front and back, doors on the front of the gaucho, drawers, (in the dinette seats in 1978, in the middle of the gaucho 1977, and earlier?). I think the a fall prevention bar for the upper bunk was also part of the package.

BTW: Would it be OK with you if I put your trailer on the serial number list?

Yes it has the deluxe package, but not sure of the fall prevention bar. Doors on faces of the large table seats as well as access lids on dinette seats eavh side. Two doors on gaucho sest and two access covers under the gaucho bunk. Yes please list the serial number gor historical records. Thanks. - Dan-

I may still be interested in selling the Trilluim. Have not had the chance to take pictures of interior yet. Just got back from 10 days with my Casita. I like the Trilluim better as it is a simpler machine and roomier, but without a closed bathroom. Was thinking of selling the Casita instead. Maybe sell both, my next camping trip is not until next February. I will see if I can figure out how to send you a PM. - Dan-
