BaseCamp is back!

Just saw this today. News to me!
Airstream compacts its sleek aluminum construction into Basecamp trailer (again)

I think that is a cool-looking trailer but for the size and weight I'd rather spend less on lighter-weight fiberglass. I still wonder if the market is right for it- but we'll see.

Do those windows open? For us it is too heavy, too expensive and too much like a tin can. No
doubt there will be those who drool over it though.

35 Gs for a 16 footer? Then add a 30 percent dollar difference and I bon't think that you'll see many up here in the Great White.

I like the looks of it but its to pricey for me but then so are the Olivers. I do like that the spare tire is mounted underneath and that plastic box on the tongue of the trailer is really nice. The top of that box has an added compartment for storage It would be nice if Camco or one of the other aftermarket company's would make a similar box that could be retrofitted to RV's that have the covers of LP bottles.

[QUOTE=Hazel in Sk;608886 For us it is too heavy,.[/QUOTE]

Heavy for a fully loaded, option wise 16' trailer? Its dry weight is 2588lbs (Airstream includes battery and 2 FULL 20lb tanks in that weight BTW).

Suspect most 16' fibreglass trailers that come standard with 2 full propane tanks, 2 burner stove, Sink with cover, 12V heated waste tanks, Bathroom/shower, Screen doors, black out shades for windows, 18" tires (& a spare) Bose bluetooth speakers, 2 Fantastic Fans, Propane Quick connect, Pre wired for solar, tank monitors, T&G wood flooring, heater, Patio Awning, Hot water tank and a retractable cloths line and the list of standards goes on & on ..... are going to weigh in at about the same. ;

Taking a look at the Real World Weight thread and you will find a number of 16' fibreglass trailers tipping the scales to within just a few pounds of 3000lbs loaded. Add 500lbs of personal stuff to the Basecamp dry weight and your in the same ball park.

Nope its looks are not for everyone (including myself) but not everyone likes the looks of a Boler or a Trillium either.

From https://www.airstream.com/travel-tra...amp/floorplan/

Hitch Weight (with LP & Batteries) 410 (not including AC)
Sleeping Capacity 2

Almost no usable storage space (at least one underbed space is used by fresh water tank, no closet like in Scamp or Casita). To me Casita 17" would be a better choice for that tongue weight. But rear door is a huge plus. But US$34,900 for 16' trailer is a huge minus.

In any case personal preferences and the bank account will make a decision :-)

Snoozy and Happier Camper each come with rear door, for those who value the feature and also value a lower price point.

The first base camp seemed to be a toy hauler directed at 20 something's after their first successful IPO. I'm not quite sure who the demographic is here?

None of the pictures show any opening windows so unless there is an air conditioner and a way to power it, things are going to get pretty hot inside while camping at the remote places the ads suggest.

Years ago I watched a truck camper leave a rest area with the rear door wide open. I and others yelled but we went unheard. If I owned a rear entry camper the first thing I would install is a your rear door is open light. Raz

I think the first version was focused towards a customer with an active outdoors lifestyle of any age, where the focus was getting where you wanted to play, yet have the luxury of bringing along more 'stuff' than with just a car, including a warm dry place to party and sleep.

I think even this crowd was demanding a little bit more, which they have added with this second version.

Of course it will not be for most of use that prefer the virtues of moulded fibreglass shells for our trailers, thus all the negative remarks so far, but I do think there are folks out there who both have the money, and the desire, to buy something like this.

While there are lots of outdoor pursuit folk who scrape by with little money doing what they love, there are also those successful in the business world who do these activities for the health of it, as well as a release from the corporate world. This latter group is a prime candidate for being a customer.

There is actually a . Shows a lot more detail regarding finishing and storage etc.

Some pretty cool storage ideas in the video worth stealing if one is redoing a fibreglass trailer.

I am impressed, but more then twice amount of my 16` scamp, when new, and then some. They would not have twice the amount of fun though. I like it . Carl

Wow, impressive. There is a lot of good thought and technology that went into the new Basecamp design. Good for them.

Heh. I missed that. All I saw was an outdoor shower. Guess I'll have to get out 4 or 5 credit cards now...
