Ok ... some of you may have heard of Patricia Schultz new best-selling book "1000 Places To See Before You Die."
Then again ... maybe some of you haven't. Here's a link to the NYTimes bestseller on Amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/076110484...glance&n=283155
Makes no never mind ... I thought we should compile a "down and dirty" list of 1000 Places To Camp Before You Die.
No reason to give some lengthy dissertation ... just give a short listing of the Campground, the location, and the reason that everyone should camp at this place ... atleast once ... before they die.
A picture would be nice ... if you have it... but not necessary. Just a quick listing of a campground you've either visited ... or hope to visit.
Keep it short ... a couple of sentences ... a picture or two (if you want to give a detailed camping report ... do it in the campground report section!)
Now ... I'm not wishing ill-health on anyone ... but hey, folks ... time's a-wastin' ... make plans to get that fiberglass rv rolling ... if only in your dreams.

I'll start ...
Meat Cove Camping
Meat Cove, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia
Absolutely, positively the most breath-taking views ... particularly if you get a site right along the cliff

Caravan over Trail Ridge Road ... the highest continuously paved road in the continental US ... well above treeline ... with a group of friends ...
Camp inside Rocky Mountain National Park campground, near Estes Park, Colorado.
In fact, I'm getting a hankering to do this again. The caravan part. It was really a sight to behold.

Lake Louise Campground ... Lake Louise, Alberta
Make sure you take the hike to Moraine Lake ... climb to the top of the rock pile.

Thanks Mike! Looks like a neat place!
------
Here's another
Starved Rock State Park, Utica, IL ... not far off I-80. Hike the suprisingly deep limestone canyons. Great place to camp in the winter, electricity at each site.
Called Starved Rock because some Illiniwek Indians choose to starve on top of a large rock formation rather than surrender to a raiding band of Pottawatomi.
Ice Climbing is a favorite winter sport (for me to watch and others to do!).

Jack ... are you related to moderator Mary F?
She, too, once threatened to kill me if I told people about her favorite campground.
Because I'm more of a lover than a fighter, I've never told.

I think I want that book! Maybe I'll ask Santa.
Here three of my favorite camping sites in Baja
1. Rancho Santa Ynez in Catavina---great place to explore the unique flora that grows only in Baja
2 and 3. Laguna Ojo de Liebre---great, quiet and then can take the boats out to see the whales
4. and 5. El Requeson on Bahia de Conception---place to just do nothing---or play in the shallow water.
Happy Camping
Diane

The Steens Mountain, Eastern Oregon. Camp at Fish Lake (about 7500' up) and catch this sight from 9700'
Drivable all the way up when free of snow.

Fort Jefferson, Key West, Florida. Actually 70 miles offshore due west of Key West. Accessable by sea plane or a two hour ride on a high speed catamarand. The most complete civil war era fort I've found. Lots of history in this area. Dr. Mudd served most of his prison time in this fort after sitting John Wilks Booth's broken leg after he shot President Lincoln. Mike B

Fir Lake, Willamette National Forest near Mt Jefferson, Oregon. It's a short 1 mile walk to a very quiet place to camp.
More pictures can be found here.

Gray Bay, Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwaii) BC.
Free, uncrowded campsite right on the Pacific Ocean (facing east: watch the sun rise over the Pacific!), free firewood, picnic tables, fire pits, big, warm waves, no services. No stores, no cafes, no coin-operated anything, no paved anything, no noise, no worries.
Catch crab, cook crab, eat crab, sleep. Wake up, canoe or kayak or snorkel, repeat -- til you run out of water. Then must return to civilization!

Don’t miss Rancheria RV park Hwy 89 in northern California near Burney, Ca. Here are a few photos. They will speak for themselves.

This campground is short on amenities but long on breathtaking scenery and great trout fishing. It is one of the highest campgrounds in North America at 10, 000 feet. It was a location for several films including "The Maverick Queen" (1956) staring Barbara Stanwyck and Berry Sullivan and "Winterhawk" (1976), a movie with a melodramatic story line but exceptional cinematography.

Great spots folks!
Craig ... you've got to atleast give us a "hint" as to the campground's location!
We , too, like to camp at 10,000 ft (3048 m) ... and have several prime campsites in national forest spots in Colorado's famed "14-ers" ... a large group of mountains with peaks over 14,000 ft (4,267 m).
