I just bought this Teardrop American "Outbacker" model. 1989
Only thing I see that needs repaired is the seal on back hatch.
There isn't a sink or cutting board.
I'm going on a USA road trip this summer and this will work perfect for me.

To see what it looks like there is a thread here on this form

Link to see

I have orignial paperwork plus specs. I'm posting this as not much info can be found on the net about this teardrop.

Lenght overall 9 feet 4 inches
Width overall 7 feet 6 inches
Height overall 5 feet 6 inches
Roadable weight 400lbs (approx.)
Camper unit weight 225 lbs (approx.)
Tire size 12 X 480

Here is one website that talks about them.
info

When I get it cleaned up I will post a picture.

to the site Michelle!!

That leaky gasket can sometimes be replaced with some sort of common door weather stripping gasket found at Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Just take a small sample piece into the store with you when you go shopping. Another alternative would be to take that sample piece into a local well equipped R/V dealership.

We have seen a couple of those. I believe they are a molded plastic of some sort.

There is one other extensive thread on them..I think it got lost in the hack.. I can't find it.

Michelle already posted one of those links and the one I was looking for was a couple pages long. Guy from Seattle bought one.

I'd love to see your cool little trailer . . . it'd be great if you could make it to the Spring NOG or Oregon Gathering in Bandon!

It's "low-maintenance, [b]polyethylene hull is strong, lightweight and extremely durable". Pre brochure.

I had the same problems with leaking seals and a wheel rubbing through the wheel well. Overall the little teardrop served me well. It always attracted a crowd when I opened the gull doors.

What do you think the cause of wheel rubbing through was? Another member bought one with the same problem. My looks good so far.

Neat little trailer Michelle! I would love to see some detail picture of it. Are you going to install a kitchen in the back or use it as a storage area?

I'm going to store my kitchen stuff in the back. No plans of modifing it. If you go back up in this thread to post #4 you will see pictures of it. Haven't taken any pictures yet or I would post.

Another Teardrop American

I picked this one up at the end of last summer, 1400.00 not sure about doing any mods but its clean and no changes. Mine at one time was used by the Navy at Mare Island, Ca I'm guessing for loan to family's on weekends.

Dale, that's neato! If I was wanting a non-standup trailer, I'd be on the hunt for the American Teardrop. I wish Michelle would have stuck around and told us about her travels. Her Last Activity: 07-20-2008 06:19 AM

Congratulations owners. I have one as well. I'm waiting for Spring to dig it from the snowbank that covers it. It needs some small repairs. They are so simple very little can go wrong. I want to add a solar fan if I can find the right one.

Bill K, Thank you for the tip. I have ordered a marine Sunsei Solar Vent. The fan can be reversed and it has a light. The only possible drawback is that it only moves 1000 cu ft per hour, and I'm not yet sure that is a drawback. rb
