If I have to fly, I now fly Southwest. Best prices, fewer fees, almost none!!

Unfortunately they don't fly to Europe. Our flights require 2 stops increasing airport tax fees.

Wow!! 265 comments so far! It's a GOOD thing it doesn't require INK!
Since that's one thing which definitely costs more than gasoline

I m remembering about $0.35 per gallon in about 1970 with numerous gas wars bringing the cost to the high teens and low 20s. I believe if gas had risen a few cents per year over the past 40+ years without all the ups and downs, that gas could be about where it is today. If that were the case, we wouldn't give today's prices a second thought. I paid $3.359 in Santa Rosa, N.M. today and saw it for $3.299 when I didn't need it. Now we're in western Oklahoma and the prices are in the mid 43.40s. When we left Camp Verde, AZ yesterday morning it was $4.099. Interesting.

I've never bought 18 gallons of ink at once, but I'm sure you're right.

I think it's funny when people relate the price of gas to something completely different... Like milk or bottled water. Yes, you can spend more for milk, but it doesn't take two gallons of milk for me to get to work every day! I certainly don't spend $300 a month on bottled water.

Of course it was an unfair comparison, it was meant to be,to comment on the level of interest on this topic
I don't think Bill Gates could buy 18 gallons of ink at once!My printer takes $70 to fill and I can't even tow with it.
If it took ink to post here, I'm sure there would be fewer posts, and those would be Succinct
My tap water costs nearly as much as the fuel bill for the Escape though.

Gas went up 9cents/gallon today on the futures market. From Jan1 to March 1 gas rose 44 cents on the futures market. The BP Cheery Point refinery will be offline another 2 months. So who should we be mad at?

Lot's of folks are chasing oil futures. Gas usually doesn't go up 70cents/gallon in winter. Supply and demand isn't working today!!

The US is already one of the top oil producers on the planet. We're sucking it out of the ground left and right.

For an authoritative explanation of why gas prices are what they are read Dan Dicker's Oil's Endless Bid. Basically everything to do with the commodities market and little or nothing to do with supply and demand. The reason there seems to be no rhyme nor reason to the prices we're seeing is because there isn't. Good fireside reading...

Not surprising that would be Dicker's take as after all he was a floor trader on the NY Exchange & many of those folks believe they have super powers & can change the whole world just as long as your willing to buy what their selling :-))
