It is what it is. As a driver, I've purchased fuel in Oregon anywhere from 28 cents a gallon (1968) to $4.10 (2009). Loved those gas station wars... where competing stations that were across the street from one another kept lowering their price per gallon
Right now, at the ElCheapo station near me here in Portland, it's $3.49 USD

LOL, my hubby was born that year. Here in Central FL gas is 3.63 a gallon today. Yesterday it was 3.59. Not going in the right direction for sure.

Maybe... But they have other issues. I took a Lamborghini Gallardo for a spin around the Las Vegas Speedway last year. Fun car, but absolutely no place for a child seat. Also, from personal experience, there is not a lot of head room. If you are 6'2", you will not be able to wear a helmet. Fortunately, through skills or luck, I didn't need the helmet.
Here she is:
Ain't she a beaut?

Okay, I'm not too many months from celebrating another one of those "oh NO'" birthdays... they end in a ZERO. But as my older Aunt often tells me "I know I will be .?(OH NO) years old.... you younger bucks are NOT SURE that will happen for you. Embrace birthdays... the more you have.. the longer you live!

When "younger" folks make a wise crack about my age, I just look at 'em and say: . . . "You should live so long."
Then I remind them that while they are still working every day and drinking every night so they can go back to work the next day, I'm gonna be sitting on the beach.

Already over $4.00 some places in Palm Beach,Fl.
Glad I only work there sometimes!
I started driving during those Gas Wars Donna and I remember the crazy Price Wars that were rampant at the time.
I also remember the Oil Embargo all too well when we had to wait in line to get 10 Gallons or so which was rationed for a short time.
We thought the prices were bad then?
It is going to get a lot worse I fear before getting only slightly better again and then much higher prices may well become the norm here.

Exactly one week later from my last post, that same ElCheapo station went from $3.49 to $3.59 US gallon. I just filled up this morning on my way to work. $70.23... and it will last me six business days (if I'm careful and don't need to "shop" after work). That works out to over $350 a month to commute to work. I heard on CNN this morning we can possibly expect $5 a gallon in the US by Labor Day....

Gas prices
Jim the guy who owns the gas station in the small town near me ,told me yesterday that his supplier informed him that gas will be $4.25 to $4,50 /Gal by April 15. (Wisconsin) I am looking forward to summer and no snow but not to gas prices at that level . If gas prices are that high in the midwest I hate to think what the prices will be in California!! At least the oil companies can benefit from the unrest in the Middle East ,we won't

A report on fox news said that part of what is driving prices up here is that a larger percentage of U.S. refinery production is being sold/shipped to china. Overall demand for product like home heating oil has been lower than normal in the U.S. due to the milder winter weather. So it sounds like the oil companies have just decided they can make more money by shipping the products overseas, and thereby also reducing supply here, which of course helps to keep prices up domestically.
I know I put $122 worth of diesel in the dually the other day ! Oh well....they have it, we need it....

Evidently Oil is our biggest domestic Export product.
Tell me why or how that makes sense?

Ed, you have to member that the "we" you talk about are 'for profit' companies. We don't have US oil/gas... The oil belongs to companies who sell it wherever they make the most money. That's why I laugh when people say "we" should be drilling in Alaska. Why? You and I won't benefit from it at all. Some big companies will sell it wherever they want for the highest price they can get.
We have exported a lot of diesel fuel for a number of years now because it can be sold for more money elsewhere (Europe). Oil companies don't gain anything by selling it to us (Americans) for less money.

When I worked for an oil refinery an engineer told me that a lot of the Alaskan and Canadian crude was a Sour crude with a high sulfur content . So even if all the oil from these sources was sent to the US our refineries could not process it so it was sold on the open market.. I also know that at the refinery I worked for we could only run so much "Sweet crude" because the plant was designed for sour crude. All Oil goes on the world market and if China's willing to pay the price they get the oil. Gas prices will not drop here even if our refineries are running at reduced levels if the rest of the world wants the crude oil and is willing to pay the piper

Yet Canada is the biggest export of oil to the USA but we pay more for it at the pump ...... go figure.
