I went to graduate school in NH in the late 70s and remember seeing the Old Man in the Mountain, and was sad to hear it was gone. However, the scenery in that area is so striking that I'm sure it is still a well-visited destination.

Hard to believe it has been 4 years.
I remember back in the late 60's and early 70's climbing up tot he top of the Old Mans head looking down on the world on a cloudless summer day. Once we even met some Dartmouth collage studends doing repairs and takeing messurments of some of the bigger cracks that, ultimately was the reason he came down.
Franconia Notch is still one of my favorite destinations and when the grand-kids get a bit older I am sure they will enjoy the area too.
In my opinion I hope that the thoughts of building a life size model up on the face of the rock never comes about.
I think it would be mocking God in an attemp to do as he did,
God maketh and God taketh away.
