5 yr Mystery Leak Solved!!!

Howdy! Some of you will remember I've had a leaking fantastic fan ever since I picked up my Scamp 13 Deluxe from the factory 5 yrs ago. I've returned to the factory twice and they had resealed it, I've had 2 different boat restorers also reseal it here in FL and nothing has helped. One Deluxe owner posted pix of the AC screws having penetrated the roof causing what looked to be the exact same leak location and pattern as mine. I apologize I can't remember who that member was. I decided enough was enough and made a 3rd trip back to the factory to find out exactly what was going on and that it be fixed properly. Turns out for a short time period they were installing the fantastic fans differently thinking it was better. So they removed my fan entirely, made some cuts and adjustments, replaced the rotted wood trim, reinstalled the fan and like magic no leaks! I spent 18 days and 5100 miles on the road in all kinds of weather and she is now dry as a bone. We did Lake Superior's North Shore all the way to Canada, Caves in Kentucky, River Tubing in NC, it was an amazing trip but best part is finally no leak! I can't believe all the changes Scamp has made in 5 yrs. Different axle, tires, screen door, double tail lights, front exterior lights, max fan, diff AC manufacturer, even a new gelcoat process that stays shiny longer! Picked up some goodies for my baby like new snap caps, decals, spare tire cover, footpad for front jack etc. Before I left I had 2 new Maxxis tires installed and I am so happy with their performance on all kinds of roads most of them awful. Way less bounce I wasn't picking stuff up off the floor every time we stopped. Trailer was even more stable with semis all around etc. The trip was fantastic and fruitful so can't ask for anything more. On a side note, MN State Parks are now 100% reserveable so we weren't able to camp in any on the North Shore as they were booked solid. We used the Casino CG in Grand Portage which was very nice on the Lake, and then we had to travel all the way to Duluth to a Private CG. Anyway, I can now close this chapter on the leaking Fantastic Fan!

Yes I do remember wow what a relief. Any kind of leak is stressful. But you are now good to go quite while even with new tires. Nice to know they ride so much better i'm gonna have to check those out some day. Glad you guys had a safe trip back home safe and sound. I spotted you on the scamp facebook when you picked it up brand new but nobody else noticed here

Definitely look into the Maxxis. Mounted, Balanced and warranty ran me $245 at Discount Tire. They were fantastic in the rain too. Now I feel so much more at ease with the leak taken care of. I haven't camped in over a year bc I was afraid it would rain so I never wanted to remove her cover. Decided that was ridiculous and bit the bullet to make another factory trip. Of course it rained on the way up so had a towel on the table during travel and a bucket at night. At least there was still room for me to sleep on the bed with the bucket lol.

I recall your frustration with the leak. Good to hear they solved the problem. Do you have any idea how the fan was originally installed and what they did different?

We've given up on state parks in that part of the country because of the price and the all reserve business. We stick to NFS campgrounds and sometimes a town or county park.

No, Scamp didn't go into any details as to how they changed the install nor why they tried a different technique in the first place after years of success. The phones were ringing off the hook and people kept coming in so I was lucky to get as much info as I did lol. They didn't charge me so it was obviously their mistake. Oh, they are also using a different door seal now if anybody is having issues. He checked mine and said it looked good.

Pretty impressive customer service they did not charge you 5 years down the road. I remember a new owner came in here with dip in his new scamp roof, enough of one to pool water and they took the trailer back. I think exchanged for another brand new one if I remember right.

I remember your leak issues, So glad it is all fixed.
I am sure you are thinking it was worth that insanely long trip lol as unsolved leaks are such a nightmare especially on a brand new trailer.

I recall one Scamp owner who had AC screws penetrate through the roof.. but he had a Standard model, not a Deluxe. I know that for a fact because it was me.

But did they install your fan with screws going up through the fiberglass from inside the camper, in the same way as my A/C air distribution box? My Fantastic Fan was installed with rivets from the roof. I thought they all were done like that.
