We used pickup truck canopy sealant. Nice and wide, but thin and pretty flexible. Seal isn't perfect, but better than what we had before. This was recommended to us by Claire at the Boler 50th in Winnipeg this past Summer.

The original seal on the frame is still in excellent shape, so we replaced the old foam on the door.

Originally I used foam sealant that I bought from Home Depot, but after hearing about the pickup cap sealer from Claire, we decided to try that. It works much better.

Will look into the cap sealer just got back from a 5000 kilometer trip to New Brunswick. Great trip BUT on the way there we had 3 days of monsoon. Kind of put a damper on things [pun intended] so got to seal things up.

Jimnval, our Trillium 4500 door seal consists of a thin flat foam seal (approx 1/4 by 3/4) on the inside edge of the door, and more importantly a large rubber bulb (3/4" or more) seal with a clip that holds it to the door frame. The bulb seal is thin rubber that has flattened out to conform to the door. This combination of seals works well at keeping out rain and wind. Also, check whether your aluminum drip cap is leaking water at the point where its riveted to the body. You can test by pouring water or with garden hose. Also use a garden hose to test the door seal before, during and after completing the project.

Here are pics of the door frame seal:

Also, the age and condition of the hinges, as well as the how well hinges are fastened to the body affect whether the Trillium door hangs squarely, which affects how well the seals hold water.

We have actually replaced our worn out 40 year old hinges, and installed new hinges using improved hardware (combination of threaded inserts and machine screws).
