A frozen foam question

It's common to get below zero temperatures here so for years I've removed the foam cushions and topper during the winter. My concern was freezing might cause damage but I have no experience to confirm that. I'm curious, do others living in the frozen north remove the cushions? Will they be damaged by freezing if left in place?

No. I've had trailers in 23 cold winters (and counting) and not once has there been any problem with the cushions. If the water system is winterized, the only thing you may want to remove (and keep in a warmer space) is the battery.

I'd be more concerned with rodents. They have chewed up my SUV wiring, and did get into the trailer once, but they have never damaged the cushions.

The only thing that I notice damaging the cushions is UV light. The cushions that are not near a window do much better than the ones next to a window.

If it is fully charged, the battery won''t freeze.
The freezing temperature of the electrolyte in a fully charged battery is -92º F (-69º C).

Our cushions (new in 2008) have stayed in the trailer parked outdoors every winter with no apparent harm. And we live in Duluth MN which is just south of the Arctic Circle!

So cold wont hurt the foam.. and extreme cold probably helps to prevent moisture related problems with the covers. But in the south I would suggest storing the cushions inside your home when the camper is not used for more than 3-6 weeks.

Lived in the far north for many years, never had an issue with frozen foam. However, a friend who lives further south but in an area that freezes for several months a year uses Moisture Eliminators in her camper that she picks up from Dollar store. I was suprised to see that the little containers were half full come spring. I use them now we have moved further south to Northwest BC. but found only about 1/2" moisture in the little container come spring. A fully charged battery is ok to be left but many people bring them insde for the winter.
