Drove to the Toyota dealer last Sunday to look at one of the three 4Runners they had on their website. Nope, not a one on the lot. I'm pondering ordering another F150. I think they will sell special orders for sticker but it takes 8-10 months, from what I've read.

If you're talking a regular F150, you can create an order online right now and get at least $1500 off the sticker price. If you can wait, you get exactly what you want for less than off the lot. I think the manufacturers are doing this because it means an almost guaranteed buy. The dealer gets their cut without having to do anything more than submitting the order. Supposedly, the special orders are higher priority in the manufacturing queue than models being shipped to dealers.

I have to say, I'm with the original poster on this as well. After putting in a deposit for an escape 17b, I wrongly assumed 2 things. One that the price wouldn't change after putting 2k down, and 2, that like cars trailers have "model years", and it doesnt necessary have to be built that year to pay that price. The sales rep mentioned when she sent me my official estimate that 2023 prices could go up but I figured as long as I put my deposit in before 2023 model/ pricing was announced I'd be good.
As a result, I was shocked when they recently randomly raised the base price about 10%. And upon reading this thread, surprised that the price is attributed to what year it was finished not whether ot not it's the same "design" (I understand very little changes year to year). This explains why some people were pretty angry to be offered the 2021 slot but still pay 2022 pricing. Didn't they account for those prices in that year? Why not pass that off to the more loyal customer who stuck with the purchase.
Casitas 2k deposit locked in price policy is more what I expected Escape's to be. And even more impressed with Scamps $500 deposit locked in price policy. Those are the other two trailers i was considering by the way, which is maybe why it stings a bit more. Then again, quality matters most and I'd rather a manufacturer not cut corners to make up for rising costs. Not saying they are but I think Escape insulates against this possibility better.
In the end, it's our fault for not fully understanding the terms, so I'm not angry with Escape, just wish they'd planned for cost increases better and kind of wish they'd absorb it more than passing every thing immediately down to the customer multiple times within a model year. I know they were talking about opening a factory in Texas so could be trying to raise capital a bit more than in the past.

Dean,
Congratulations on the retirement!
I'm glad to hear that Gibbs in still in the picture. I mentioned your post to my wife this morning and she was a bit unsure who you were until I mentioned Gibbs; then her eyes lit up. We've agreed that we want to get a few National Parks visits out of our system before we bring a pooch into our life, but she sure thinks about them a lot.
As far as RVs and vehicles, I will also never stop looking. However, like you, I am also standing pat with what we have.
A lot of the gear you are describing is light but bulky. When we had the Casita, I looked seriously into having an A-frame extension welded up by a local shop. I also looked into moving the spare tire under the back of the trailer and mounting a cargo box on the rear. Another thought was to provide a few inches of storage under the mattress to store flat items. I also considered an ≈8x8 metal box slung under the frame or mounted on the A-frame like a sewer tube to carry our awning.
Then, we went with the Escape, so all of that planning went out the window.
Between these types of things and perhaps even a "rocket box" on the Borg's roof, I think there's a number of things that you could do that would greatly improve the cargo handling capability of your current combination for a much more reasonable cost than trading up.

And thein lies the comedy. Unless we're "lightening" the vehicles, we're just trading gas hogs for power hogs. But I bet they'll sell "lightning" fast!
Sorry, couldn't resist...

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the retirement compliment! I am enjoying it. In fact, my plan was to take off 6 months (as of 12/31/21) and then mindfully decide if I wanted to pursue some interim/temporary appointments. I have now decided after 7.5 months of retirement that my lack of motivation to look for a temporary appointment means that I am not that interested in working, LOL.
LOL, many people at rallies and campgrounds recognize us due to Gibbs and not my dashing good looks or dapper personality! He will turn 11 at the end of March and is still puppy cute. He still loves to play, but would rather take a drive than take a walk!
Yup, much of our gear is bulky and not necessarily heavy. However, despite our 7,500 lb tow capacity, I am aware that our limiting factor is 1,154 lbs of payload. Sufficient for Laura, Gibbs, myself, our bulky gear, and the 400 plus/minus tongue weight.
We just recently added the Bodega cooler and Gibb’s pet stroller/trailer. I definitely need to think about ways to reconfigure and/or how to be more efficient and/or effective with our packing.
Great hearing from you!
Take care,
Dean

Hi Shelby. We ordered a new F150 in mid-October. About a month ago they said they had procured all the parts. This morning a message indicates the manufacture (start) date has (again) been pushed another week out. So... it looks like we will be waiting at least 6 months by the time it's ready. That's not a problem for us in our current situation, but FWIW (and YMMV).

Probably due to the blockade of the crossings from Canada.

Thanks! I have read that builds can be delayed by specific options and that if your dealer contact/ salesman is conscientious he can keep on top of this. Then you get the choice to drop something and get the truck sooner. I think I may check into this next week. I'm happy with my current truck but it's getting long in tooth. One more new one should see me out.

Basically what I understand is if they want $2,000 down then that trailer might be made CHEAP.
You ever seen the video on youtube of the Casita trailer broken in half in the middle of the road?

Do you remember that Escape had to recall their trailers to correct a frame breakage problem? Both are great trailers as finished prodicts.
The quality is not a factor in determining ordering policy.

It’s a contract. You can mark it up with your changes and hand it back to them, if they accept-great, if they don’t you will know exactly where you stand.

It had nothing to do with the quality of trailers, they were the identical product and well made, only the dealers policy and how much up front money was required as well as risk if some catastrophic health event were to happen. Both dealers were ok and have a good record and similar prices.

It was an old Casita that broke. They are built well & last a long time. BUT if I could afford a Escape I'd buy one.

We bought our Scamp thinking the price was high...
Turns out it was cheap, since it is still worth more than we paid.
Luckily, we hit the jackpot and wouldn't trade it today for a new Escape.
I also feel that I own the best truck in the world at $25,000.
could have spent more than twice that and got nothing more.
As the old carpenter once said " measure twice, cut once!"

HAHA, we have the best truck also. 2018 Bought a used 2015 Colorado V6 for $23K. Mine is now used for $30K because of the low supply. We bought our 2019 Casita at the right time also. Fully loaded 23K & wait time was only 2 months.

" Freefall"?
Maybe for the staples and popsicle stick variety (most of the disposable RV market)...........but an Escape? (or Oliver and similar)....Nope - more like back to "normal".
FYI - Escape has hosted used trailer sales on their site for years (pre-covid)
A new Escape now runs about 40% more than pre COVID.
Pre covid wait times were around 3 to 6 months. Inventory trailers have always been available - depending. The COVID panic is what drove the wait times out so far.
Get back to me when you can get a new Escape 19 for under $30k USD
I'm still waiting for a new Prevost for under $300k....

‘Free fall
I have been looking for a used smaller Escape (17 or 19), not any bargains that I’ve seen. Prices are still rising on used Escapes. IMO, it’s a quality product and I’m just glad I got my rig when I did.
And BTW, Escape has always had the ‘used trailer’ units feature on their website. Checked yesterday…no bargains there either.

I made it known on the Escape forum that I was looking, and after a couple months I received contact from two different sellers. Each was asking a reasonable price IMO. I am glad I got one of them (March 2023); no regrets. If I sold today, 10 months later, based on the asking prices I see listed my E19 would bring as much or more. (But I'm happy as a clam with it, so it's definitely not for sale!)
