Alert!!! Scamp with Kiddee Kamper Rentals graphics missing

Judy & Bill are members here, but I saw this posted in a different forum and wanted to get the word out right away. Let's see if we can help them...everyone keep your eyes peeled.

You all have been so much help on here. I know you all keep your eyes
peeled for other Scamps going down the road. We have a situation --An
older couple rented one from us and has never returned it. We had a
very busy weekend and also had to hire some help while we had to go out
of town a few days. So the Kampers were all returned except one. It
should be quite an eyecather as our KIDDEE KAMPER RENTALS logo is quite
large and colorful in yellows and blue. They had called to extend their
rental since 'grandpa' was sick. We were very concerned thinking he
may be in the hospital. Their phone number has been disconnected and
no sign of them so the police have been called.
So much for trusting older people. We don't know if our insurance will
cover the loss or not. Still waiting to see what happens.

Oh my!!! what area do these people rent out their Kiddie campers? Hard telling what direction they went.. but i am always keepin my eyes peeled for scamps, etc.

It might be helpful if you re- post a picture of what the Kiddie Kampers look like so members wouldn't have to look it up. Do you have any idea where the KK went missing? I wonder if that particular model had a number assigned to it that would make it easier to identify if it was spotted.

it is entirely possible that there is a medical or some other emergency preventing return or even making contact with the rental comapny difficult. (It is also entirely possible it was simply abondoned or stolen.. but...)

I had to hold a rental car well beyond the stated rental period because I was snowed in and did not have chains to fit the car, or a plow to even get it down the street.

I called the rental company once, told them the story.. and they simply waited for it's return two weeks later.

Of course, it was on a company credit card and they knew darned well they would get paid.. so I don't think they cared

I found out that the Kiddee Rentals are in Chattanooga TN. I will definitely be on the lookout since I am in the region.

Could possibly be repainted already or the decals removed. Let's keep a wary eye on Ebay and Craigslist for new listings.

I'm with Gina... The story, as provided, seems to lend some credibility to the possibility that the family had an urgent medical issue to which the trailer is taking a back seat... The disconnected phone number could have several innocuous explanations... Calling out the lynch mob could have negative consequences... It sounds like they had a busy weekend, then found out on monday that there was an issue, and suddenly it's tuesday and they're pulling out all the stops?

Actually, they're up here in NE TN (Johnson City, to be exact).

One thing that seems unusual to me is the really teeny window in front.
Most I have seen with couch have a big window. Special order???

Anyway a giant rooftop air cond and teeny window would be something to key on.

We certainly hope everything is on the up and up and the renters are just delayed...but just in case I don't think it will hurt to have a bunch of caring fiberglass folks keeping their out.

The trailer has been recovered. I don't know the details, waiting to hear. But at least it's not going down the highway behind a thief's tug.

And if anyone is looking for a 13 foot Scamp, it appears they're selling some...whether that means they're getting out of the business or going to larger trailers...that I don't now.

Hi All - The owner of our campground here in Bristol, TN (Lakeview RV Park) mentioned there was a business renting "these little trailers" just down the road, so we had to check it out Guess what ... the business is KiddeeKamperRentals! We visited with owner Bill Sternberg for a bit, discussing how his business idea is progressing, and the details of the 'borrowed' unit. Apparently an elderly gentleman came in with a young woman he described as his daughter and rented one of the Scamps. In truth, she was his caregiver; the man became ill, so she put him in the hospital, took everything he had and split, abandoning her patient AND the trailer. Other than needing a good cleaning, there was no damage to the trailer. And now you know the rest of the story.

Bill said he will continue to order new trailers from Scamp, selling off his "gently used" units.

This will really be a plus for buyers in this area, saving them either a trip to Backus or the cost of delivery.
