We have stayed at several casinos and liked the spots there. At most you need to go in and register and sometimes pay. Most have been free camping. Some also give some gambling money on a card or a free buffet. There are no trees at most casino camping but it is usually a safe place to camp. We also camp at Walmart when there is no other option-we always make sure they allow overnight camping.
We usually do the casino and Walmart camping on our way to our destination because all we want is a little rest then on we go in the morning.

Greg ...just for you...did you smile?
Greg,
I hope you cracked up...and it brought a smile to your face. All in all I do value everyone's comments. I fully support the "leave things the way you found them"..and do not support free loading.
I never get to get on here...I took yesterday an today off from work. I just need some mindless entertainment to get away from the seriousness of my job.

Summers were to muggy for this native PNWer. No ticks in the winter either. My favorite phrase, and maybe the only one I learned....Youseguysgoornohey. Yahhh. And since a good part of my family came to this part of the world from Scandihoovia, vell, it vas not a shock.

Da trolls live under da bridge.
Translation: People from the rest of Michigan are called trolls by the Yoopers because they live below the big bridge that connects the rest of the state and it is below if you look on a map.

Two sources for out-of-the-ordinary camping at, sometimes, low cost.
- HarvestHosts.com A variety of camping experiences in vineyards, farms, special attractions across the nation. Your RV must be self-contained and you are requested to purchase something from your host. Membership is $40 per year.
- HipCamp.com Places to camp across the country for fees of $35 and up. Some campsites are public others are private lands.
Note: We have camped at several wineries here, in California through Harvest Hosts and have loved the experience! We have been the only RV on site overnight which makes for quiet evenings. We've met some great people who own and operate the wineries. We've learned much about the wines and the process of creating wine. We've met the vintners' dogs. (Every winery, it seems, has at least one dog.) We've learned the history of the regions in which we travel. We've been to places in California that we have never been before (we are native Californians)...and I don't drink wine much! My husband is the wine fan.
I, for one, can hardly wait to camp at an alpaca farm!

Tires and bearings. Those are the two things that can ruin an otherwise good day.
For the tires, check dates, not tread wear. It's stamped into the sidewall as WWYY (2413 means the 24th week of 2013). Most tire shops won't touch a tire over 6 or 7 years old. Check the pressure, too, and lug nuts.
For bearings, find out from the seller when they were last serviced. If it's within a couple of years, you're probably good. If not, or unknown, it might be worth your peace of mind to have them serviced locally before driving home a long distance. If that's not practical, monitor hub temperature frequently during the first couple of hundred miles.

New Scamp Screen door
I like this better than the old wooden framed screen, stays shut and is nice.
We will see about durability

When traveling..there are times we just need a spot to pull over before continuing on to our final destination.
Sure would like to get a recommendation on a nice paved, lighted spot....and if there were similar places across the country.....oh that would be stupendous .
Certainly would be nice to have bathroom facilities also. Oh jeepers..if you might know of a place like that ....it would be nice if there was somewhere that a guy could shop for some last minute items.
Hmmmm...if anyone knows of a place like this...please let me know.
I'll be waiting for replies and recommendations....

For just a few hours sleep there's rest areas, truck stops, walmart, and sometimes a gas station. Always a good idea to ask before just going to sleep. I usually ask if there's someplace I can park my trailer a little sleep. Have always been directed to a location.

Bass Pro sometimes allows overnight parking in its parking lots.
One thing I learned in boy Scouts was to ALWAYS have a Plan B. In fact our tour permits specifically included Plan Bs. We usually carried tarps and our Plan B was to camp on Us Forest Service land, if our church arrangements fell through. We usually threw down our sleeping bags in the social hall of the church, but I have heard recently that you can ask a church if you can park overnight in their lot. Most of the churches we stayed at were close to Interstates but usually quiet.
A canoe outfitter let us camp overnight in their parking lot in our van once.
in Florida yu're not allowed to park overnight in rest stops but nothing is said about taking a few hours in daylight to nap.
