I just went up to my trailer to turn the furnace on so I can do some prep work on it for an upcoming trip.

The thermo said it was 34 degrees at time of turn on. (No water in the tanks.. it's OK)

The time I did this was 11:30

How long do you think before the temp goes up to 70? (Thermo setting cut off)

I am guessing an hour, but..

might be fun to see. I will check the temp once every 15 mins.

It's a 17 foot insulated Burro. All vents and windows closed.

The weather underground station just a block up the street says it's currently 41 degrees, no wind (*F* for our Canadian friends)

I am not a physisistststst. I can't even spell it, but it's interesting to see it stall as it gets closer to temp. Maybe I should have paid more attention in science class.

Furnace still going when I exited at 1:05.

I have to leave it running.. I have some wet cushions! I haven't been in it for any period of time since thanksgiving, so didn't notice.

I think it is just pooled condensation as the moisture is limited to things well below the windows (Curtains are fine and show no signs of staining) and there are some drips pooled on top of the cloth shower curtains I have as covers.

They appear to work, the tops of the cushions are bone dry and the only wet parts are where the shower curtains didn't cover.. on the bottom between the top of the bench and the cushion bottom.

All the cubbies are dry.

1:35, 70 degrees and the furnace kicked off, for about 2 mins..

outside temp still 42

so, I guess 2 hours and 5 mins is the answer.

Can a scientifically qualified person explain the stall?

Is it because it reached a point where it is losing heat around the thermostat at about the same speed it is replenishing it?

Ches' point about outside temp was a good one, and it just so happened it remained pretty much the same throughout the experiment, adding control and bumping that out as a contributer.

It's the same theory that a watched pot of water will take longer to boil water. If you go into the other room for a little internet the next thing you find is an empty pan with mineral deposits.

well, I am satisfied the moisture is from condensation and not a leak. The cushions are already dry, including the foam, which was hardly even damp.

The underside of the "cute" tufted seam hider inside was dry when I went in this morning and now with the heat going all day it has condensation behind it.

I am running the propane, not using an electric heater. I actually LIKE the furnace better than the cube heater, it heats more evenly. The condensation is a very minor annoyance and I have not actually noticed any on exposed surfaces while running it, even when it's this cold.

Right now, outside temp is 37.

I'm not sure exactly the time we got back to the trailer today. I was after 5:30 pm, but for the sake of argument I'll say 5:35 pm. Outside temperature = 42.8 degrees. At 6:10 the furnace shut off. Thermostat was set at 70 degrees. The furnace has been off since we left the trailer at about 8:00 am.

35 minutes to furnace off with window over the stove open a bit and the roof vent open a bit.

You have a smaller more open space to heat. Sometimes, I miss my 13 for that reason.

For me and my needs, the furnace is located in an inconvenient location, at the dead center of the trailer. I realize this even things out on the whole, but I spend most of my time on either end of the trailer. It takes awhile for the hot air to get over there where the thermo is... unless, of course, you are talking about my presence there to start with.

If I remember right you have a bed at one end and a small dinette at the other. I was just wondering if you could put something you could hang a drape from near each end. Then hang the drape to close off the end you'll be using last.
