Asking for help re: 19 ft. Scamp 5th wheel

Hi,

I am new to this site and would like some advice.

We currently own a 24 ft. Trailblazer Class C. Would like to downsize/simplify to a Scamp 19 ft. Fifth Wheel.

Is the Scamp going to be considerably easier to "drive" and park? I know mileage will be better as we now get between 6 and 8 mpg..

Also, will a Toyota Tacoma 6 cyl. pull it with ease and will any modifications be needed on the truck? Where can we get the specialized hitch needed for Scamp Fifth Wheel?

I can't really see a pickup and trailer being easier to drive than a Class C; however, once you are set up at your campsite, you could drive the truck locally, and leave the trailer at the site... the pickup alone is a lot easier to drive than a motorhome, and with the trailer you don't have to "break camp" and take your RV with you.

We don't have a "fifth-wheel", but being able to leave our trailer at the campground and take our van somewhere is nice.

Bonnie, I'm sure some current fifth wheel owners will chime in here.

I've had both a Scamp 5th wheel with a Chevy S10 4.0l 4dr pickup, and a 32 1/2' Class A in the past. I think that the Scamp and S10 combo was easier to drive than the Class A simply because there isn't so much of it.

The hitch should come with the 5th wheel when you buy it, but if it doesn't, you can either have one fabricated or buy one directly from Scamp. They're very simple, and "fifth wheel" is really a misnomer as it's actually a gooseneck hitch and a standard trailer ball and coupler on a raised assembly. It's quite easy to hitch and unhitch.

I went back to trailers after my moho 'cause they just made more sense for the way we use them.
