attention virginia folks
dear Virginia folks I am infected with trouting desease! in reading up on your state I find you are loaded with huge trouts and your fishing permits are cheap plus your state is beautiful.
I am planning a trouting trip to your state and I don't want to be a pioneer to find that perfect spot! get this at 76 I am too old for searching I want trouting action.
so if you know of a nice spot for someone close to being disabled that can bank fish for those guys let me know by p/m or here.
thanks and more thanks

I took my kids camping here over 40 years ago. At the time, there was fishing, but they weren't too keen on making sure everyone was licensed and they asked that any reviews leave out any reference to fishing.

Bob, if you travel a bit further south, there's lots of great trout fishing in NC. I'm not a fisherman but have been known to clean and cook for a share of the harvest. Lots of streams are 'stocked' around Robbinsville NC in and around Nantahala National Forest. I can recommend several rustic and boondocking camping spots if you're interested/

Never fished VA but would suggest that you not pay too much attention to license fees. I stopped buying a TN annual out-of-state license when they had a big increase, but the biggest reason for that is between GA and NC, didn't need the option to keep my year full of trips. If I were travelling for it, an extra 40-50 bucks alone wouldn't make me travel an extra half day. TN has good trout water and friends in their 70s and 80s fish the South Holston regularly, and there are spots you can bank fish if you can't wade.

Bob, my brother in law was a fishing guide before he passed away recently. One year he took my husband fishing near Herbert Hoover's cabin. Hubby doesn't remember more about it except that the fishing was great. Maybe you could Google Hoover's cabin?

Bob, I am a Virginia resident. Yes you can trout fish here in the George Washington Jefferson National Forest. I camp here all the time. One of the places I go is Northcreek Campground in the Glenwood Pedlar Ranger district. It would be Boondocking they have a vault toilet and water. With senior pass only costs $5.00 It's beautiful. Wonderful creeks, they also stock them with trout around the begining of May. You can camp and fish creekside even being disabled. However YES you do need liscense and YES they do check delingently. Now I am also familiar with the Herbert Hoover Fish Camp. It is located within Shenandoah National Park. You cannot drive to the camp, you have to hike long distance in. So suggest that you come on down and say hi, and enjoy yourself.

Bob, I also recomend West VA. If you need electric when you camp you could stay at Watoga State Park, then go to the Cranberry Glades then the 150 biway to the Williams River, Bring your best flies. West VA is totally handicap accessible even for fishing. Enjoy.
