Awning poll: need/won't ever use

Thank you to all who replied to my question. Strong majority like awnings, but most advised that we let the buyer deal with a replacement if they wish to have an awning. So...that's probably what we will do. Now, I just need to decide if I want to go to the trouble of removing the mounting brackets. Hmmmm....

A definite YES. one downside of Scamp's awnings is they leave a gap between the roof and awning case, which lets rain through. that can be sealed with a length of clear vinyl tubing and silcone calk.

Very little awning use by me. It always worried me that a gust might come up and ruin it.

Ya gotta anchor it down with stakes and ropes, just as you would a tent or canopy.
Interestingly, Fiama says their awning is not to be used in the rain, or wind.
Seems to contradict the reasons we like to have an awning. But, I suspect they take that position just to avoid liability.

It's important to note that we are not talking about the same kind of awning on all these trailers. The Carefree Fiesta awning that came standard on our Escape is a breeze to put up and take down, is very durable, and can withstand winds with no issues, provided they are not violent gusts like with a thunderstorm.

The awnings some others are talking about are much flimsier, more difficult to put up, and easily damaged with winds. If I owned one of those, I might feel differently about awnings.

I like the awning on our Trillium. It probably isn't the 'right' one as it is longer than the slide on the camper. It is obviously quite old - made of some sort of rubbery fabric, and it gets attached with a rope through one edge. There are also three poles with the needed ropes that we stake well.

Our Ventura didn't have an awning and we used one of those King canopies for shelter. The Trilly came with an awning (and also cost more money). We bought what was available in our price range. When we sell we try to give a fair price for what the new owner is getting.

Suggest leaving the brackets right where they are.
Again, let the buyer decide. I know for us with our amerigo,
it is a puzzlement how and where and details of the mounting brackets.
If they'd have been there, we'd probably have sealed them after painting and reinstalled them as they were. Even without an awning, just in case.

Ray, from being on the buying end of well over a 100 of wheeled items, the awning is an option, maybe a nice to have item but not a deal breaker to me. My SD didn't have an awning or furnace when I bought it and other than noting that, it made zero difference to me on the selling price. So, I fall on the side of not replacing it and you'll be $s ahead, but do let any buyer know the condition.

Thanks again for all the replies to my post. To clarify a bit, our awning rafters were so bent that we could not retract it to travel home. I had to remove it completely, just leaving only the three mounting brackets. Just got a response from Scamp that my brackets are not interchangeable with the Fiamma they now use, so it looks like the best course may be to remove them as it will be a much cleaner look.
