Trailer: Scamp 13 ft

Post

We made it back from Backus a little while ago. We got our Scamp and really enjoyed traveling with it. The country is beautiful and we will be back to see it at a more leisurely pace. We really want to do the circle route around Lake Superior. There are a couple of minor problems that we discovered after we crossed into Canada. The florescent light over the sink would occasionally turn its self into a strobe after it was turned off. It looks like a faulty switch which I can replace. The other problem is with the cupboard and closet door catches, couple were missing, one fell off and several were loose. These days if those were my worst complaints I should probably shut up. Learned a bit about what to take and what not.

Now I am off to Newfoundland. This is something I have been looking forward to for a long time. It is a long trip some 5000 km (3000 mi) and 2 ferry rides return. Any info, hints, places to see, there or on the way, would be appreciated. I have done some research for the trip but I am sure there are some off the beaten track gems that would be worth a side trip that are unknown to me.

Will post some pictures when I get back, and I did get the a picture of our Scamp under the Scamp on the pole.

Cheers

Sandy

Hi Sandy,
Hope you enjoy your new Scamp. As you probably know, there are not too many in the Ottawa area. We live in the Arnprior area and have a 95 13 foot Scamp. Suggestions for Down East - we've never been as far as Newfoundland, but two campgrounds that we really enjoyed and have returned to are: Cambell's Cove in the eastern part of PEI and the municipal campground in Lunenberg N.S.. They offer two very different experiences.

Welcome to the world of fiberglass trailers. I'm a Newfie, now living in PEI since 1971. Just got back after a six week trip to BC to pick up our new Escape 17B. (Sold our 16' Scamp last fall). If you are in the area, we'd love to get togather and share some stories. You will love NL. Also there is a fiberglass gettogether in NB on the weekend of July 23rd.

Hi Sandy,

Glad that things are working out. For your Newfoundland trip, do a search under "Camping, Campout Reports" at the report on our "Trip 'Down East' Summer '08" posted April 14/09 -- a similar jaunt up the Great Northern Peninsula.
