Cute, but useless. For example, how TIGHT is the grading? If from top to bottom the "score" is from, say, 99.2 to 95.4 that is a WHOLE lot different if it is from a top of 99.2 and a bottom of, say 40%.

So, without DATA - meaningless.

Seeing that Florida is near the bottom of the pile does not surprise me much. Driving slow and blocking the fast lane seems to be considered an entitlement in this State for many. I have watched in amazement as some drivers hang out for mile after mile after mile, blocking fast lane of our four and six lane highways, driving below the posted speed limit, often way below it, completely impervious to the line of cars backing up behind them and the recklessness with which those anxious to pass zip on by them. I try not to do that. Pulling the Casita, though, I am almost always in the outermost and slower lane.

I saw the article a few days ago and tracked down GMAC's driving test here. After taking the test, I was deeply disturbed by GMAC's estimate that about 40 million drivers could not pass a written driving test today. Take the test and see how you stack up to the national stats.

wrong answers

8. You may pass on the right of another vehicle when:

A. When traveling on a multi-lane highway carrying two or more lanes of traffic in the same direction
B. The other vehicle is making or about to make a left turn, when a lane is provided to pass on the right
C. Both answers are correct

I picked B

16. Under most conditions what is a safe following distance?

A. 3 seconds
B. 10 seconds
C. 20 seconds

I picked B

My score was 95% This is the only one I got wrong:

18. When you approach a traffic signal displaying a steady yellow light, you must:
A. Go through the intersection before it turns red
B. Stop if it is safe to do so
C. Be prepared to stop
D. Slow down and proceed with caution

I picked C.

I'm from Illinois. We know how to drive in Chicago...FAST... and well, the rules are for fools in this state. Just ask our politicians!
