What is the best Ram diesel forum for general information?

I am not a mechanic or even mechanically inclined. I have changed the oil in some of my car and trucks over the years, but the new synthetic oils are so darn dirty I have been having it changed by professionals, just to give you an idea of I am about.

I just bought a diesel truck, the first I have ever had. I bumper tow a Big Foot 25RQ.

The Turbo Diesel Register as predicted and showed me how to fix every problem I have had on my 1995 Dodge diesel in 243,000 miles. They predicted at what mileage to expect a problem and detailed instructions on how to fix.

Thanks Tom, I checked it out. They only support 4th gen and 4.5th gen Rams. They do not have any articles on 5th gen, which is what I have. I will watch closely and check out the articles.

Oil changes in a diesel …. if the old oil comes out "clean" it did not do its job.
Removing unburned hydrocarbons as well as lubricating is what the oil does.
Always run the engine to warm the oil and stir up sludge in the bottom of the sump before draining the oil.

I understand what you are saying Wayne. Conventional used oil is dirty, but this synthetic stuff is really nasty. The dirt seems to penetrate into the skin, which the older Dino oil did to some degree, but not like this new stuff.

The Cummins engines with EGR carbon up the oil more quickly than the older ones did. My old '04, with no EGR would go 10,000 miles and still only look slightly brown. I don't agree that the oil "didn't do it's job if it comes out clean". That truck was never babied and it was turned up. The only kind of oil I've ever run in my three Cummins is Delo 400. After 280,000 miles on my 3rd gen, it had never used a quart between 10,000 miles oil changes and ran better when I sold it than new. It showed no signs of wear.

All my oil changes occur at 10,000 mile intervals. My deleted '14 carbons the oil depending on how hard it has been worked during the previous 10,000 miles, but the oil stays cleaner than it did before it was deleted.

If brand and model history is any indication, the Cummins diesel motor won't give you much trouble anyways. It's the rest of it that you'll have to keep an eye on.
