Best Route

Hello All:
Could someone kindly recommend, in their experience, the best route between Colter Bay and Custer State Park? We will be traveling mid-June.
Thanks

I think you pretty much have to go north through Yellowstone and then head east toward Cody. From there either north on 310 to I90 or keep going east on 14 through the Bighorn National Forest - a beautiful drive. Just curious -are you coming from Connecticut? Seems like Custer should be your first stop and then down to the Tetons. Have fun!
Happy trails and safe travels,
Kathie

We have found the Yellowstone route beautiful but slow. We have found Route 26 and U.S. 20 to Casper, on to Lusk via U.S. 20 and up to Custer as a good route, too, and not as prone to tourist slowdowns.

I think I liked 20-26 best but...

It depends on what you like to see. I have gone both the highway 20 - 26 route and the Yellowstone route. The mileage only varies about 60 miles in any route. If you would like to see devils Tower, it is about 35 miles north of the I-90 route. Once you get to South Dakota, you can spend several days doing touristy things. This is what GOOGLE says.

Thanks to all replies. We ended up doing the 20-26 route and that worked out well. We are headed home and stopped in Keyhole State Park in WY (very nice if you have a boat), Devil’s Tower ( 104 degrees-yeeesh) and then down to Custer. ( SD state parks are great! )
Happy and safe travels this summer.

We have both reasons to remember Devils Tower. I have been there but did not see it.
It was so foggy that I could not even see a silhouette of it. Then last year as I was headed there, I got sick (not covid) and went home. Maybe next time.
