Bought and weighed a 2011 13' Scamp

Hello,

I was lucky enough to find a like new 2011 Scamp 13' with everything I was looking for: toilet/shower, A/C, brakes, awning, and more. The previous owner had not used any of the appliances or the toilet/shower. She had just slept in it.

My tow vehicle is a 2011 VW Golf TDI. I wanted to stay as close to half the curb weight of 3100 pounds as possible. I had spoken with Scamp as I was planning on ordering a new one. I was told the total weight of a new one with A/C, toilet/shower, awning, brakes, and more options would be under 1500 pounds.

I took the Scamp I just bought and had it weighed. It weighed 1760 with nothing added to it and nothing in it. Wow! I was surprised by that. That's almost a 20% overage.

Luckily my car pulls it just fine.

I'm looking forward to getting out and about in my new Scamp.

If you want a realistic towing weight add another 400 to 600lbs to what it weighed in at to cover your personal stuff and food etc... not kidding!

that could be the difference between dry and wet weight, i.e. adding in propane tanks and propane and a battery vs shipping weight from factory.

You need to check your owner's manual for towing capacities.
I would almost be willing to bet that if the manual says you can tow that much weight there's a trailer brakes required statement and a transmission oil cooler. Those things are good ideas for safety and long transmission life.

Thanks for the response! I bought the OEM european hitch and had it installed. It replaces the bumper and is rated at 3300 pounds. Brakes are required and I do have a brake controller installed. No need for a transmission cooler, it's a manual.
