Bunk Bed Pictures Request
Hello Everybody,
I am rebuilding the inside of my 13 foot Scamp. I have some alternative ideas on how to do the bunk bed and I would really enjoy seeing pictures on how the bunk bed works on other Scamps.
If willing, please send me pictures of your bunk bed set up, broken back down as a sofa, close up pictures of the hardware, and at a couple of extra angles.
Thank you so much, this forum has been a great resource for my project.
Jay
You can also send pics directly to my email jay@houseman.org

Where are you at in Cali? I have a complete set I'm about to take out of a 1984 19' 5er. You can have it all if you want to come get it.

Awesome!
That would be great. I'm in Albany California. This on the East Bay of the San Francisco bay area near Berkeley.
Where are you?

I am in Vegas. LOL! Think your wife would believe you if you told her you needed to take a road trip to Vegas to pick up some parts?

I actually have lots of parts. The 3 burner stove, the sink, the original interior lights, I told Chita he could have the fridge but haven't heard from him for weeks so it's going also. I may also be dumping the fiberglass benches, bottom cabinets, and cushions(?).

That sad thing is she would believe it. She has endured so many of my project frenzies that she now has the thousand yard stare when I embark on such things. I wouldn't be able to make it to Vegas but if convenient, I'd love pictures of that system.
Thank you very much for your generous offer.
Jay

What are the weight limits on the top bunks, generally? My 10 year old is nearly as tall as I am (though I'm a shrimp), and I'm just wondering how long we will be able to use the bunks as-is before having to mod something sturdier.

Mary, 80# limit. Remember the board supporting the top bunk is just fibeglassed to the shell. I certainly wouldn't want to be on the bottom, if someone was on the top bunk and it fell!

Jay, I stopped home after my function the other day and noticed that Ron had already posted the bunk bed pics which are almost identical to the Scamp. Are his pictures sufficient? Do you need more pics?

Thanks! That is pretty light. I will have to keep an eye out on all of the modded bunk bed threads.

I was uncomfortable with the fiberglass on the shell only method for a bunk from the get go. I am framing the walls (like framing inside an egg) to better support weight (and to make room for more insulation). This pic is just part of the framing. I will have more horizontal pieces for a bunk and then fiberglass or that in. I will add more blocking at the bunk attachment area. Then I will apply wood finished walls, and the then a bunk bed. In other words I'm building a wood shell (endo-skeleton) inside the fiberglass shell.
Just finished the running lights last night! Wooo hooo!

The 9 year old has been a great help making the framing templates.

Jay, it's good to see a kid involved in the process. She will have a better appreciation of the finished product due to that involvement. Good job!

I agree. I love to see kids being taught practical skills, especially girls.
