The family will be traveling to Colorado to visit relatives in mid-September. Rather than impose upon them, we're taking Junior (our FGT) and hoping to find a good, inexpensive campground within a few minutes (15 or so) to their house.

We've looked at Chatfield Reservoir State Park. IT's $18/night with no hookups plus a $7/day entrance fee to get IN to the park. Not bad, but I wonder if we could do better. Chatfield, is adjacent to the freeway. Camping on the inlaw's city street would be quieter (though I don't think they'd go for it).

Anyone know of a place?

My needs:
- a legal place to park and camp
- a vault toilet (or lots of trees and a big shovel)

</a>Jen, Man oh Man, that's a tough one! There are not a lot of options in the Littleton area. Your really outta luck for one with lots of tree's. Littleton is somewhat getting into the plains of Colorado so the only options I can even think of would be, Chatfield (ick) though it's farther off the freeway than you think. And there is a old Moblie home park that has camping out on Hampton (really icky). But I did come across Jefferson county fairgrounds camping, Know nothing about it. But you might want to investigate. Now if you were looking farther west, north, or east there are a couple of options, though only a couple. DO NOT STAY[at] the one on Fedral Blvd! Nasty Nasty Nasty area of town. And they charge a pretty penny and have a bunch of extened stays in falling apart old rv's. Sorry I can't think of anything else. I actually think your best bet would be Chatfield only cause I know nothing about the campground at the fairgrounds. Good Luck! Robin

I've stayed at Denver North and they had clean showers. This was a few years ago. Link here

Unfortunately Ken that's probably about a hour from Littleton. Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay there, I always have wondered about that place.

And it really isn't the 35 miles that is so bad, it's the volume of cars you have to travel with between Littleton and the campground.

Thanks, Robin, for the details, particularly on those "icky" ones! I'll be sure to steer clear. What about the hogback? Is there anything back that way? What about Deerfield Park? Is that just an uppity neighborhood, or is there really camping back there? Have you ever tried or heard anything about Flatrocks Campground?

hmmmmmm, I have never even heard of flatrocks. I will have to investigate. As far as Deerfield I think it's pretty much homes. I just don't camp around the Denver area so I am at a loss as to where to direct you. In Wheat Ridge there is a rv park, thats workable but still kinda out of your way. We tend to head for the hills. Too Bad you have to stay in Littleton, cause there is a ton of neat campsites up I-70 as well as South/North of Metro Denver. If you were up for a 11/2 hour drive, we even have a pasture you could park in. But we are really north of Littleton. Chef Hosa which is almost into Evergreen, but that's a drive to your In-laws. Metro Denver really doesn't offer a lot of rv parks much less campgrounds. Let me know where you end up. Robin

Jen, Only suggestion I have is to mapquest some of these options with your in-laws address and that way you can see how far you would have to travel to their home from your campsite. Good Luck!

Morrison I think might be toooooooo far, If it were me, I would stay at Golden Gate Park and have them get a cabin there. Sweet little campground. And still close to Denver.

Golden Gate State Park

More options?

I love your idea, but they don't travel. Ever. OK, they did come to California 13 years ago to see their only son get married. That's it.

So, we go to them. I'll check your other links.

THANKS!

Wow! How sad. But hope you guys enjoy your time here. If you have a day that is free, let me know I will take you on a quick tour of Denver.
