Now that's real fear.
Many of us Canadians have relatives living south of the border, mixing freely with our American neighbors. If those Canadians are all like my fun loving party animal relatives, those are the Canadians you gotta fear.

I have a confession:

The "Keep" side of my family came here to the U.S. via Canada...story being that London-dwelling great-great-etc-Aunt Emma went downtown one day never to return....supposedly turning up years later in Canada where she'd joined her long lost forbidden love, most likely named "Romeo Capulet-Montague" or something. But peace for the Lovers was not to be found even in Canada...Having to face the same terrible persecution there that their forbidden love had exposed them to in England, they then fled to the U.S.A. and lived happily ever after.

My personal opinion is that if any relative of mine went to Canada from England at all, it was whatchamightcall "less than voluntary". Great Britain's fabled Invitation to Emigrate-or-Else method of populating the colonies while at the same time ridding the Motherland of riffraff seems a more likely explanation for my family's presence in North America!

As the inscription on the Peace Arch says, "Children of a common Mother"

How scary is that?

Stomp'n Tom Connors has passed away.
I call for three days of silence, except for his music.
A Canadian icon.

Thank you.
I am a huge Tyson and Fricker fan. I don't know why Stompin Tom has never showed up as a YouTube suggestion when I listen to them. Now I got to send more USD to Canada.

Why should we fear Canadians

Does anyone know what it is about Canadians that makes them so dangerous?
Please advise soonest-
I live in a Border State and may well encounter a Canadian at any moment
Thanks in advance!
Francesca
Hi Francesca, I hope you are sarcastic...
Some fear to hear FRENCH instead of English (I heard that from an old B&B owner I met in Philadelphia) ... but seriously, statistics show that USA is far more dangerous than Canada in many ways. Just look at Canada Firearm Death Rates and Ownership vs United States Firearm Death Rates an... There is simply 13 times as many guns in USA than in Canada per 100,000 people of population and it shows. Handguns and assault weapons are very rare in Canada compared to USA. Laws are far more restrictive and relative risk is far greater in US to be shot dead.

I can see US citizens being terrified and shocked at the idea they might have to speak Spanish to work... I was surprised to find out when George W Bush got elected he had NEVER got a passport and ignored the name of the Prime Minister of Canada. This is one thing to fear learning another language, but it is sad to act as if the only country in the world was USA, and as if USA was and will only be English speaking.

Now it is time to be scared... I will continue in French (my native language).

Bonne journée !

I was, Martin...you sorta had to be there at the time to get the whole picture.

Bonne journee to you, too! Also have a good trip...

Francesca

P.S.
Internet mechanics question;

How do you get that little "accent grave" thingy dingy to post? My "journee" looks pretty silly without it...

Umm... Martin, did you read the whole thread? It is quite long, but this is one of the funniest threads I have ever read. In several places I hurt myself laughing.
I am going to go with Francesca having her tongue planted very firmly in cheek, (sarcastic).

But now that it is Stampede in Calgary again, I will be very careful about who I ask, "Have you been to the Stampede yet?". I don't want to get shot.

LOL wasn't that incident a classic example of someone who should never go as a tourist to another country! Yup your likely to get shoot alright but most likely by a red neck Margareta (a shoot of Jose Cuervo).
