I don't know what I'm doing in this thread anyway.
My only experience with canoeing was in Northern Ontario. A friend (at least I thought he was a friend) in Sault Sainte Marie invited me for a weekend at his cabin with his him and his son.
We drove north out of the Soo on highway 17 for about an hour then turned east on a dirt road for a half hour. We carried the two canoes and gear through the bush for 50 meters to a creek. After a couple of portages and some beaver dams, we were in a small lake. We crossed the lake and headed down another creek and arrived at a larger lake.
It was here I discovered why Brian had invited me along; as a canoe motor. He rigged his fish finder and broke out his tackle. I paddled him all over that lake chasing schools of fish he saw on the fish finder. He never even got a nibble.
We joined his son and another guy at the cabin on the shore of the lake. The next morning we were at it again.
I never did tell Brian that people just don't catch fish when I'm anywhere near.
