Speaking of spam bots, at a financial forum I frequent this new message appeared:
"Does the dogs of the dow investing theory really work? It worked well in the past, when there there was great emphasis on growth stocks vs. dividend performance stocks. Since the growth "bubble" burst, more investors are reaching for dividend paying stocks, causing the "DD" theory, in practice, to be less successful."
So people started responding until one person posted "OP is a spamer.", followed by some "how do you know's?"
Then the site admin responded with this, which I found very interesting.
"Interestingly enough, she is. Or rather, it is since it appears to be a sophisticated spambot that harvests legitimate questions from somewhere and feeds them to a long list of forums. No doubt the reason for this is to build up enough posts so the spambot can post links and/or images (brand new posters aren't allowed to do either)."
It was later revealed the posts were originating in India. It has six posts, all originating post (no replies), and all asking various financial questions just like a human.
May you live in interesting times!
