Central a/c Bang Sound & Stopped Working

We were in bed a couple of weeks ago & we heard a loud bang... it sounded like a bowling ball hitting the house. The central air stopped working & I saw the fan would not spin. (the unit seemed warm) I tried it a few days ago & the fan spun but slower than usual. I tried it again * now no spin of the fan.

Anyone know how I could repair this? Thank you!

sound like the motor bearings on the fan are shot. Turn the power off, remove the guard and try turning the fan by hand, it should spin freely, if not, that's your problem

Thanks for the tip... the fan spins freely but I found that the capacitor has exploded. I may have to wait until Mon to call Grainger & see if they have a new one. We really don't need a/c now since the highs have been in the middle 60's F but that's a nice temp to work outside in.
