OK... enough is enough! with the wind chill factor, it hit minus 50C in Winnipeg this morning. for those of you down south, the celsius and fahrenheit scale are the same at minus 40. I so hoping we are rewarded with a nice summer to compensate. brrrrr

I've always been thankful there are volunteers like you to live there. Without you folks they'd have to draft people.

Thanks

Personally, I love the cold. I find it keeps the sissies indoors and out of the way. No lift lines at the ski hills, no line-ups at any of the stores, but it seems to have little effect on traffic on the snowmobile trails. I guess when you're going 60 miles an hour, the actual temperature becomes less of an issue.

Dress warm folks.

Saturday, I had semi frozen pipes. Today, while driving home, the temp display in my car claimed... 83.

I prefer a "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade" approach. So, my dear frigid friends of the North, I assume you're spending lots of time indoors and need some ideas for how to best entertain yourselves. So, should the temperature drop another 146C, I have a website you might enjoy visiting:

1001 things to do with Liquid Nitrogen

I'm so sorry I complained, when I got up this morning, and the temperature was 45 (F).

Of course I felt a lot better by noon ........ when the thermostat hit 75 (F).

....and as I sit instant messaging with a buddy in the North End and lookin at the 'Peg Cam I see a breeze wafting in from the south. Usually this would be a good thing, except that cold trough has dipped really low into the midwestern states, so does this indicate the breeze from the south is cold as opposed to its usual balmyness???

This would be a nice time to take a train ride with beautiful scenery outside and a warm coach to sit in to enjoy it!

Ahhhh...8:00 AM and the temps are starting to moderate at -23 F. it feels warm> After getting up at 2:00 AM to find the power had gone out so the wood fired boiler was of no use I had to go out and start the generator.
Temps at that time were a bit colder at -30 F.
Thank God there is no wind (maybe it to is frozen).
Wonder if I will go camping this comeing Tuesday they say we will have a January thaw, meaning maybe it will get into the 20's. (hey above zero sounds real good about now.)

Minus 39 celsius at first light this AM. She's still a wee bit chilly, but should warm up long enough to snow this weekend!

Actually, that is an urban myth. It NEVER gets too cold to snow.

Yay!

Here in the Sunny South the current temp is 24 degrees, with a wind chill factor in the single digits today. The only good thing about it is that our refrigerator decided to stop cooling a couple of days ago, so we transferred all the food we could fit into the Scamp's fridge, then set the rest on the camper table. It's now the world's largest refrigerator. Tomorrow we'll bite the bullet and shop for a replacement fridge.

Paul and Roger are both correct.

At -39 C the likelyhood of snow is very low. There is a very good explanation here:
http://www.weatherimagery.com/blog/too-cold-to-snow/

I'm not the only one with water causing problems during this cold snap 100,000 lost power in Toronto when a transformer blew. Link to story. Any of those with forced air furnaces would lose their heat. It took them 24 hours to restore power to some homes.
