Condensation in a Tarped Trillium

We brought home a 1300 last fall. There weren’t any obvious signs of moisture in the trailer. We bought a high quality tarp which covers it completely. I went into the trailer yesterday and the ceiling has moisture gathering in places on the ensolite. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

Hi Nancy,

- We never had moisture in our 1978 Trillium 4500 while storing, however we stored it in our attached garage.

- We currently store our 1979 Boler 17 outside with a cover that has ventilated flaps, and again we haven't seen signs of moisture. We do put in several containers of dessicant while storing. Have to be careful setting out dessicant containers (place on trays) to avoid damage to surfaces.

We remove cushions while in storage.

Also check to insure there is no dampness in your subfloor plywood and window frame plywood.

-John

Note: Both our Trillium 4500 (since sold) and our Boler 17 are lined with ensolite. Never had a moisture problem with the ensolite itself as it is a very durable closed cell foam. However, we have repaired numerous leaks in the shells of both trailers.

If you're talking about a cheap tarp like that from Harbor Freight.... THROW IT AWAY!! NEVER EVER "Tarp" an RV unless it's a "breathable" one and you didnt say if it was. IF you're going to cover it, get a high quality RV cover. The BEST storage is a garage, next best, carport that comes down on the sides. The next is an RV cover but the trailer should STILL have the windows/vents cracked open.

Put a dehumidifier in your trailer.......lots of different models out there......price varies but they work.

We have a 2015 Casita SD. We have to store it outside here in PA. We have a breathable cover on it. We put LOTS of desiccant in it over the winter and in late fall and early spring. We check it every 2-3 weeks. It amazing how much water we pour out of those containers!
