You might be waiting a long time for your Cortez Camper: On June 8, 2021, Paul Spivak, Chief Executive Officer of US Lighting Group, Inc. (the “Company”) was arrested for conspiracy to commit securities fraud.

Oh wow.. they seemed sketchy, but I didn't realize they were quite that sketchy. Not exactly astonished, though.

I just hope no one here got burned. They looked sketchy from the get go.

I don't see how that makes sense. Kill one little unknown startup among all the successful FG manufacturers?

Let's not convict him on one report. He seems to have a substantial business record without previous complaints. I for one hope it's something that will blow over and Cortez trailers goes forward. Maybe not, but I guess we'll see. I see the Cortez website has not reflected any problems yet.

US Lighting Group, owner of Cortes, has some pretty dubious financials. Lots of press releases and hype, not much actual production or sales. They sold $10 million in stock, with a lock up period until late September this year. We will have to see how this investment works out. Right now, the stock is down, a lot. Once those 40 million shares become available, one would expect the price to drop even further.

Being arrested and criminal charges being filed is pretty serious.

It is a great concept,
But at this point they do not even have a finished unit on their web page, (maybe a tear drop. I can’t tell), is that little red thing in the center the brake light?
Next problem is the price, very upscale at a time when I hope to see new fiberglass prices level off or even drop next year.

They did post a video of the completed Casita XL, er Cortes, a month or so back.

“With [molded] fiberglass, you can make any shape you want possible,” Spivak said regarding the 25-foot camper. “We started with the hot dog as the ultimate shape, because it is the most aerodynamic to pull down the road. It looks like something out of Star Trek.”

Very nice video, but I would like to see some lights on the side to prevent side impact. They are after all a lighting company. Maybe they could light the whole belly band!

Obviously not a completed trailer. Prototype, not road worthy, would not pass any inspection. Its a one off. Did you see running water or the stove lit? Notice the actor you see opening the door does not lead you inside the trailer with the camera following?

It's the same prototype they have been hyping for several months. It would have been too funny to see them pulled over for no tail lights, no side marker lights, etc.

If this court case doesn't kill them , you can bet the lawsuit that will be coming from Casita will. Pretty obvious they used a Casita 17 shell if not for the trailer body then for pulling a mold off of. Good luck to the officers in the company, they will need it.

Not necessarily, Casita has to prove it is enough of a copy and that they have the exclusive rights to the shape. It's kind of like why all very fuel efficient cars have roughly the same look, you can only customize the design in small ways based on the design parameters (in the case of cars drag coefficient, in trailers max room with least aerodynamic resistance).

Well, I guess that kind of comes from telling my wife that our remodels are "complete" for so many years.

Maybe you can tow it with this electric/hydrogen truck:

Seems to be a lot of promises out there.

I got a chance to go and check it out in person this weekend. Man do they need to air it out. Smelled pretty bad. The white floor would be a disaster I believe. It was already marked up a bit. No bathroom door was a show stopper for my wife. Loved the appliances. Looked like the table top was electric, did not try it out. Materials inside seemed top notch. Inside storage isn't as nice as the Casita. No closet door, just two access panels. No outside storage was, of course a big concern. No awning upset the wife as well. With the bed made, there is only a single seat dinette. Weird.

I think for a first shot, they did ok, but need to camp in one for a week to tweak some things.
