Trailer: 13 ft Trillium

I just purchased a 13' Trillium last week and I immediately headed out on the road. It was hot and I was advised not to drive with the windows open. I considered the advice and could understand having the front or side windows open could impose stress on these windows that could cause damage but... Hmmm, the rear windows probably would be safe from these so I tried opening them just a bit. To promote circulation I opened the roof vent slightly also. Following my GPS to find the shortest route home provided a few surprises; dirt roads.

Upon arriving home, I entered the camper to survey my little gem and... there was dirt and dust on everything! The dust cloud created on the dirt roads was sucked in through the rear window and the air circulation I had hoped for had been present and worked against me.

Soooo... I won't drive with my windows open, especially on dirt roads.

Cheers,
Barrie

The trick to keeping out dust is to create more air pressure inside the trailer than outside. To do this drive with your roof vent open slightly and if there is a fan turn it on to a low setting. If you notice on some cargo trailers there is a roof vent that opens forward. With that type a fan is not required. Don't try this with a side or rear window as the dust reaches up to them but it doesn't go up as far as the roof vent.
