I've finally found a reason to carry the microwave - Gooey Chocolate Cake in < 2 minutes with only 3 ingredients (well 4 if you count the milk/cream for the topping!

Gooey Chocolate Mug Cake

Oh, you want the recipe?
1 egg, 1/3 C powdered sugar, 2 T cocoa powder. Stir together in a MW-safe mug. Microwave for 50-60 seconds. Top with thickened cream, milk, whipped cream.
I also throw in 6-10 60% cocoa choc chips, Yum!

I removed my microwave to install a new larger refer. Don't miss it at all. BTW, it and the old refer are both for sale...

When we had the farm, we were lucky to be in the house long enough to use a microwave (much less anything more time consuming). My wife can't cook (which she readily admits), so it never changed after I retired (health reasons).
I guess it's just what we're used to. Yes, we'll be using one this year.

Haven't used a microwave in about 8 years and haven't missed it once. Since I don't have one at home, I wouldn't have even thought of putting one in the Casita.

Food is meant to be cooked over fire!

No, I think they are powered by demons.

It makes a good bread box though - fairly airtight. If you have one, I wouldn't remove it. If you sell, buyers will see having one as a plus.

Same here, haven't used one in the house in years. Instead we replaced it with a really nice toaster oven which is way more useful and versatile. Will do the same with our Oliver and use it when plugged into AC.

Rob, are you going to make some kind a heat proof box for it? Toaster ovens get pretty hot on their outer surfaces. They tell me they don't offer a convection type microwave because there is no way to vent the heat.

I would bet the percentage of buyers used wanting a microwave would be very similar to the percentage of used wanting one. I know if I was buying a used trailer and saw one, I would be thinking about how I could remove it, and use the space for something else.

Of the 10 RV owners I regularly camp with, two a microwave, and they rarely use it when around us, as we rarely are with hookups. One of them is planning to remove it, and use the space for a cupboard.

But, if are able to use them where you camp, and do make good use of them, then they are a very justifiable piece of equipment.

Good idea Ron, but no. Yes they do get really hot, but my plan is to install a slide out flat drawer the toaster over will set on. So theoretically all we have to do is open the cabinet sans microwave slide the oven out and it will be well ventilated from all sides. Well at least this is the plan. If it doesn't work no big deal we will just use the space for storage.

I do like the idea of a toaster oven more than a microwave, as it would work much better for cooking, BUT..... you still have to be connected to the grid to use.

I guess you could carry a gen set for both options though. I would imagine they would suck the batteries down quick with an inverter.

Agreed on that Jim. And yes connected to the grid is the only sensible way one could use these… I think. I went with the 320 Watt Solar panel and 4 trojan wet cells so as to not ever need a generator, I hope. 450 amp hours! We are fairly frugal with electricity while camping anyway.

We don't carry a microwave though every trailer we've used came with one (which we removed). There are just other ways to do the same thing, though often slower. As to the toaster, we do carry a toaster but do recognize that toast can be made without a toaster and actually I prefer toast made in a frying pan with a little butter.

At least a toaster is small and not heavy.

Funny I have done it this way for years too, makes great toast, different and a bit messier but delicious none the less.

At home yes, camping nope, only thing I recall using it for when I had one was to heat up cold coffee. Hardly seems worth the space for that task alone.

I wouldn't be without one. I use it most often when the weather (rain) makes cooking outside unpleasant or I am too tired to do any real cooking. Or if I want to reheat something. If I bought used, and it did not have a nuke, I would be looking to see where I could put one in.

I like to make a peanut bitter, jelly and banana sandwich this way.
