Drones
We played Pickleball with my youngest son on my birthday. He brought his drone along for me to see. Definitely something that we did like. The little thing fits in the palm of your hand, will hover over your hand without flinching or it move off at 30 mph under your direction. I thought it might be fun to use it to fly over the ice bergs and make some videos on our next trip to NL. I m sure I could find other projects as well. Push a button and it comes home.
It's a very interesting powerful device.

That sounds like fun, Norm. Is the camera built in?
BTW, hope to see you and Ginny again during Scamp Camp.

Tom, we hope to be there, at least to visit. Under any circumstances you are always welcome at our home. I'll let you know our plans as it gets closer.

Tom, yes the cameras built in. It will record the video and of course the camera can be directed. You can also watch on your phone as it flies.
Interestingly it operates in two modes, normal and sport. Sport is the 30 mph mode, normal is slower. It has collision avoidance sensors in normal mode. If it's hovering in front of you and you approach it backs off.
When he flew it for us it locked on two 10 GPS satellites including Russian satellites.
If it's hovering 4 feet over your head you are blasted by the down draft. Truly a professional little device.
See you in FL.

Sounds like some amazing technology packed into something you can hold in your hand. I'd love to see it operate. Did he leave it with you, or just tease you and take it back?

Drones can be somewhat noisy and distracting. For that reason I put them in a category with generators: things that require some common sense courtesy to be a good campground neighbor. I wouldn't be surprised if some campgrounds already have rules regarding their use.
I officiated a funeral a few months back in which a drone camera recorded the entire interment service. That was a new one for me...
That said, they do open up some interesting possibilities for exploring the wilds, giving you eyes where you could not otherwise safely go.

Our son uses it for his wife's real estate business. Once it's in the air it's pretty quiet. I doubt I would ever use one in a Campground though Camping World came to ours and did an aerial video of our Park.
His was nothing like a generator's sound output.

They do take some pretty cool videos with nice resolution. Clam corporation used one to film Vic and I (and our trailer) for one of their promotional videos. I was surprised at how much it could carry and still be relatively quiet.

DJIBOUTI SPARK is the brand and model. He paid about $500. Honestly it's the only one I've ever seen and do not suggest it is a best buy, just that I was impressed. It came with spare propellers, very nice case and a second battery.
