Earthquake in Michigan
At 12:23 pm this afternoon a quake of magnitude 4.20. If you go to WOODTV.com | Grand Rapids, MI news, weather, sports and traffic (local Grand Rapids tv station) and read Bill's blog there's a large amount of information about such things in Michigan. If you do that in your trailer that'll tie it into fiberglass rving.

4.2????
If one happens to notice it, out here in CA we call that a "B" ticket ride. Somewhere in excitement level between The Mad Hatters Tea Cup ride and the Jungle Cruise ride.
In fact, I understand that they had to take out all the magic fingers bed vibrators ,in SoCal because to many tourists were panicking when they though that it was an earthquake..... LOLOLOL

My brother in Mulliken had to call me and tell me that he heard it coming, and then felt it.
I'm wondering if that is the northern end of the New Madrid fault line? Some folks say we're due for a big quake on that fault line; the last biggie was in the early 1800s.

Magnitude 4 is truly small stuff for those in the large earthquake zones. Two years ago I was on the floor and we had a 3+ and NH and I could feel the house move. I was impressed.
When you realize that Mount Everest moved inch down, the whole mountain dropped an inch and probably most of the local range, in a matter of seconds that is truly amazing. The volume that moved an inch is incredible. Fracking a big deal? Nothing's big compared to nature.

You felt a 3? usually needs to be a 4 or higher before being recorded by the Canadian Earth Quake Center has having been felt. Normally we just know about them after the fact when reported on the news ... but one of 3 in nature may not even make the news.
Here is the Earthquake report for the past 10 days for BC:
04/24/15 - M=6.3 211KM WSW of Bella Bella BC - recorded as felt
04/23/15 - M=4.2 78KM S of Creston BC - recorded as felt
04/21/15 - M=3.6 96KM SSE of Village of Queen Charlotte BC - not recorded as felt.
Regarding fracking - Yup it has become a BIG deal and is of concern to those of us who already live in earth quake prone region as we would rather not give Mother nature any additonal help. Even here in BC we do not consider a 5.7 quake all that small - which is what took place in Oklahoma in 2011 and believed to have been caused by fracking.
Any time a region starts having quakes that are not the norm the question as to whether or not there is fracking taking place in the area will come up.

Nope! Therefore, the fracking in Oklahoma must have caused it from a thousand miles away... LOL

I follow the Yellowstone Caldera and their are numerous quakes every day. I did feel the 3 as a horizontal motion. Ginny felt it and assumed it was a heavy truck or our local nuke plant. We turned on the TV and learned that there was a quake.
Definitely everyone in the Middle East and all the 'Greens' wants us to stop fracking. Since 2012 the USA has become the largest oil producer and oil prices have dropped, a great success by private enterprise.

The New Madrid fault line is only 150 miles long and runs southwest to northeast. The northern most end is in TN.

Just two years ago it was very uncommon to hear people discussing fracking at the local coffee shop or pub or around the family dinner table. Heck I am not to sure most of us even know what it actually was/meant. Things are changing fast around here and you will hear people talking about it more and more and getting into heated debates on it.... starting to sound more than a little bit like the anti logging movement of the 80's and the ultimate end of logging as we know it here on the west coast. Hard to saw how it will play out in time as the economics of it are big but then again so was logging.

Although.... from the map at the link you posted, it looks like the active fracking isn't close to where the quake occurred.

actually the only reason I know Michigan did have fracking was I happened to see a news story shortly after the Michigan shake. The story indicated that the powers that be had indicated they were going to look into whether or not it may have been caused by fracking, although the technology to prove it one way or another really is not there yet.

The 4.2 quake was the second strongest. Strongest was 4.6 in 1947. I realize it's practically nothing to Californians but it's kind of a big deal in Michigan.

Its Good news to have quakes in the 3 to 4 range, the pressure is relieved harmlessly. When the slipping force is relieved in the 7 to 8 range, the horizontal acceleration is unsustainable. We leave CA in our FGRV hoping to escape earthquakes for awhile.
