I am not ebay savy. What makes you think it's a scam besides the really low price?

1. Low price, no reserve or minimum.
2. Same VIN number as one that was pulled earlier this evening, not the same trailer.
3. Free shipping to anyplace in North America.
4. Contact with the seller is usually through eBay, this one demands direct contact to free (read throw away) e-mail address.
5. Make of trailer listed as "Scamper"
6. Listing format the same as other scams.
7. Starting bid was $100. Now that's far less than any shipping costs would be.

There was one recently that they blocked out the license plate so you couldn't trace the trailer from the pictures. This one was careful not to show the back.

If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't true.

The direct email link, the nasty note in the questions section about NOT asking questions thru eBay. The private bidders IDs which this seller does not appear to have used before

The 2800 price is ridiculously low.

Something smells rotten.

So does this mean that someone is using the sellers name fraudulently?

I have reported it to ebay 3 times with not much results as they are still doing it. ebay could trace them thru earthlink. I offered to pickup scamp with cash in hand, no answer. BTW they are in Spain supposedly the scamp is in Cal. Its a shame as it make any good buy look bad.

The dollar amount elsewhere also uses the letter "O" rather than a zero. That's not an honest typing mistake. Definite scam.

Exactly how does the scam work? How does the seller get your money without delivering the goods? They're posting good ratings from buyers...how does that work?

I do a reasonable amount of buying on eBay. Generally, once an auction has ended, payment in full is required by the seller before any shipping can be undertaken. I have been burnt a few times.

A package was poorly wrapped, and I only recieved part of the shipment.

A package never arrived, and a replacement was finally sent 6 months later, only after I started asn action through eBay.

A package never arrived, and by the time I took action with ebay, the seller had skipped town. I only received partial compensation.

Note that most of my purchases are under $30, so although undesirable, the loss is a risk I am willing to take.

eBay has several buyer protection programmes, but in the case of a trailer or other large item, I would only bid on the understanding that I would personally deliver the cheque in exchange for the item.

They send you an email saying there in spain and have a few offers to buy now at that low price. The first to get their check in gets the shaft

Is anybody good enough with a computer to enlarge/enhance the license plates of the vehicles in front of the Scamp?
Scam still showing on ebay

Who wants to be a detective?

Good Idea Ruth, but the pictures belong to honest owners who have had thier picures copied off the Internet. The scam artists a representing the photos as picures of their trailers.

Here is a post from a yahoo group I am a member of
Quote:
Photos and descriptions of our Scamp have been pirated and presented
on EBay. Our Scamp is for sale, but is NOT being offered on EBay. I
have listed our Scamp on fiberglass RV sites only. My postings
included a link to the webpage which was copied for the ad.

I have complained to the seller and EBay, but have not yet received a
reply.

Please beware of EBay Item #170014092339 -- if they have a trailer for
sale it is NOT the one depicted in the photos.

Jack, the scammers somehow hack into legit sellers eBay accounts. This allows them to post on the sellers accounts for a short period of time until it gets yanked.

I am only guessing here, but I suspect they change the sellers password and use the account, locking the real sellers out of thier accounts. Once again, I haven't a clue HOW they do this.

Ebay will send an email to the sellers registered address infroming them that thier password and email info has changed. Since THIS is also a common scam to get sellers financial info, I bet most sellers just delete the email and and find out later it's true when they try to use thier accounts. By that time, the scammer is long gone.
