I wonder if the Peace River plant was replaced by Calgary, and then later production moved to Winfield? There isn't any date overlap (yet), and Vanguard's suppliers (listed in the owner's manual) were generally from Calgary, which is hundreds of kilometres from Winfield (and in another province). On the other hand, maybe the Neonex Shelter and Vanguard Trailers plants were running at the same time; there are design differences between their 17' products.

Same list again, with updates from the last day of discussion:
  • Calgary plant extended to include 1977 (as per Charlynn and Raymond)
  • Boler production (at unspecified plant) extended to 1986
Boler and Descendants
  • 1968 - 1st Boler produced in Winnipeg, MB by Ray Olecko
    • 1971 - American rights sold to Elenor International of Wichita, KS
    • Scamp is derived from Boler:
      • ???? - Boler components are being manufactured in Backus MN, by Eveland?
      • 1971 to current (2006)- Scamp is being produced in Backus
      • 1979 - Scamp branded as Acorn for one year
      • 1981 - 1st Casita produced in Backus, MN
        • 1983 to Current (2006) - Casita Enterprises Inc. operates
        • current (2006) - Casita currently in production by Casita Enterprises Inc. in Rice, TX
    • 1971 to 1973 - Bolers (original 13' model only) are in production by Glass-Fab Industries Ltd. in Peace River, Alberta. See the 1973 brochure, and a discussion in Bolerama.
    • 1972 to 1975 - "Boler Manufacturing" was building Honey trailers in Winnipeg, Manitoba, under the Neonex name (see Benny's post and clarification, plus discussion in Bolerama)
      • 1975 - Winnipeg plant builds Boler-branded (not Honey) trailers as Neonex Industries.
    • 1972 to 1979 - Earlton Manufacturing was building Bolers (13' only) in Earlton, Ontario. See 1975 brochure, other posts in this thread, and discussion in Bolerama
    • 1977 to 1980 - 17' Boler model built (B1700) - examples: Calgary and Vanguard units (below)
    • 1977 - 1978 - Bolers were "Built with Pride by Neonex" in Calgary, Alberta by "Neonex Shelter Ltd., Boler Division"; examples: a 1978 17', model 1700, was owned by Peter Epel, CharlynnT's 17', Raymond Brodeur's 1700
    • 1979 - Vanguard Trailers built my Boler (a B1700) in Winfield, British Columbia in 1979. The badge on the trailer says "Boler by Neonex", indicating that Neonex owned the Boler brand at the time.
    • 1980 - Boler 1650 built by Earlton, in addition to 1300 and renamed 17' (now 1750)
    • 1986 - 13' Boler still in production (unknown location)
  • 1974 - Perris Valley Campers is producing the Perris Pacer, perhaps in Perris, CA (see Mike-B's post #22 in this thread and Roger's post)
    • 1980-1990 - Perris Pacer produced in San Jacito, CA

More nuggets from the brochures: the 1974 brochure includes this statement on the last page:
Quote:
Boler trailers are manufactured in three locations in Canada, and are sold and serviced by dealers across the country.
Also, on the same page:
Quote:
MANUFACTURED BY:

NEONEX LEISURE PRODUCTS LTD.
BOLER DIVISION
770 Dufferin Avenue,
Winnipeg, Manitoba
and
EARLTON MANUFACTURING CO. LTD.
Earlton, Ontario
Perhaps all of the western plants at that point were Neonex (Winnepeg and perhaps Peace River), and Neonex did not include Earlton?

After Earlton the molds moved to Midhurst, not to be confused with Midland a little further away, just outside Barrie Ont. This plant continued to produce bolers well into the eighties.{ there was a mention of an 88 boler in an earlier thread, I think to do with a gathering at PEI} .This is a period when the small trailer was winding down with the energy crunch, high gas prices and escalating costs. What's new eh? The plant at Midhurst seems to have changed ownership and/or name every couple of years.
My Boler was manufactured in 1984 under the factory name "Advanced Fiberglass".

Something to add in there somewhere,
Eco produced in Aurora, NE in the early 70's.

It's obviously a Boler clone, but I got no history on it at all.

Just to add a bit of confussion here's a quote from the Scamp web page.

Scamp is a family owned business from central Minnesota which has been making compact travel trailers since 1971.
Hy there I am new to the site and dont quit know how to ues it,but I own a 17 ft. boler and my cupboards are of wood .I have never seen fiberglass ones.My boler was made in British Columbia by Jimmy Paterson when he bought the company in Calgary and moved it to B.C and build them out of the Vancard plant I was told.

Your list has Earlton making only 13' from 72 to 79. I recently sold a rear gaucho 78 17' that had a sticker inside the cupboard door saying "Made in Earlton". The original sales brochure was with it but parts of it were not readable. It also had most of the appliance manuals intact. I considered keeping all of them but in the end gave them to the new owner.

Barry, it sounds like that's the Winfield B.C. plant of Vanguard Trailers which produced your 17', just like mine. If you have the year (or actual manufacturing date), maybe we can extend the range in the list - so far it only shows 1979 for that plant, because no one has reported one built there in any other year.

Bill F., your 1978 17' Earlton extends that model/factory combination much earlier. I'll update the formatted list version with another post when I get a few more minutes (and a faster internet connection).

Actually, while I'm not sure where, exactly, Perris Valley Campers is located; and they may be in San Jacinto, the Pacers were manufactured in an old lumber yard or some kind of old manufacturing facility in Perris, CA. just off what is now Hwy 215. I think (IIRC) they were on the big bend in the freeway just a couple of miles south of what is now called the Ramona Expressway, just north of beautiful downtown Perris.
If I'm mistaken about the location... please, someone come to my rescue here!
Roger
Regarding Perris Valley Campers, I concur, Roger.
I was at the old plant (probably in the late 70's or 80's) to look at their pickup shells. The plant was on old Hwy 395 (perhaps before I-215 was constructed, as I recall). The cross street at the old Perris Campers facility was/is San Jacinto Ave., which I think may have led to some confusion as to the town. The town of San Jacinto is approximately 10 miles away, was then a dairy and farming community. Perris Valley Campers might have been located in San Jacinto earlier, but I really doubt that unless it was started out of someone's barn or garage, then moved to Perris. Perris Valley Campers disappeared from that site some years ago. My last recall is that there is now an auto dealership (Chrysler/Jeep) there, but things do change. When we lived in Rancho Santa Fe we traveled that route regularly going to our family cabin in Idyllwild. We're still there once or twice a year.

Car Dealership is no doubt buried or surrounded by 100s of 1000s of tract houses now.

That area is the fastest area of "growth" (If you can call it that) I have ever seen, anywhere. 2 years ago... high desert dust and brush. Now..

I have found this information quite helpful. In looking at the timeline, I see that the last entry to Boler is that it was in production, location unknown in 1988. When did Boler quit making Bolers? Does anyone know?

Just to add to the info, I think Boler or it's descendents sold molds all over Noth America. Back in 1990, in a campground in Hermosillo, Mexico, I ran across a 13 foot Boler clone that had been made in Mexico City! I can't recall now what name was on it, but I think it had "Casa" in it. It was being used as a residence by the campground's night watchmen. The nameplate was still on it listing a company in Mexico D. F. as the manufacturer. I doubt if many were made there as Mexicans are not that much into RVing. In twelve winters in Mexico, I only ran across two RVs being used by Mexicans, this Boler clone and a motorhome.

Hi: When we purchased our '77 Boler we were lucky to have been given all Brochures and documents pertaining to the trailer. In the envelope from Earlton Mfg. Co. Ltd. post marked 08/IX/80 was another brochure. Cover pic. showing 13' +17'+ 2dr. Chev Malibu. Of interest are the trailers as the 13'&17' shows radius corner windows and an exterior access panel to the 13' rear stowage comp. 13' 3 models Scout 1300, Voyageur1300 and Deluxe 1300. Boler 1700, Voyageur 1700 and Deluxe 1700. This brochure lists only Earlton as mfg'er. The brochure from the '77 lists selling dealer near London Ont. and Earlton Mfg. Co. Ltd. as well as mfg'd in Western Canada by Neonex Shelter Ltd. Boler div. Calgary Alta. We also have a page from Macleans mag. Fall of 2004 listing a contest/story about Canada Savings Bonds..."A nest egg hatches a dream". Alf S. North shore of Lake Erie

My 1979 Boler B1300 has radius corner windows. I have no clue what trim level it was considered. It has a heater, 3 way frig, rock gaurd and had probably had an awning because it has a rail.

In all the searching (about a jillion hours) I've done it seems production came to a major slow down after 1977-78. I've run into very few 1979s (5-6) and newer (3?).

Alf, I'd love to see the '80 brochure.

Donna, I checked that out but the only 1980 thing is a manual which I might add is quite different than my Boler.

I wanna see the sales brochure.
