Can anyone tell me the highest elevation we will get to going through the mountains on Rte 12 in the Lewiston Clarksville area? Thanks. Having elevation problems at 5200 feet.

Outside of Missoula on the border to Idaho is Lolo Pass. It is 5,233. It is downhill west from there.

But what about before Missoula? I got sick in Butte and it is only 5767. Rogers Pass on MT 200 between Great Falls and Missoula is 5610. We like to overnight near Lincoln, MT. In Lincoln they have a community park. Just a couple miles west is a forest service campground. Also on the east side of Lolo Pass near Lolo is a very nice small forest service campground. Fantastic steak at Lolo.

the section you asked about is no problem after Lolo Pass. We remember a very long climb, just not sure if it was east to west or west to east. Really enjoyed that route though. Just take it slow.

'Bout 50mi west of Missoula, MT US-12 crosses Lolo Pass, elev 5233. From there on to Lewiston/Clarkston it's mostly downhill, at least to the Lowell/Stites area, 175mi or so. Shortly after crossing Lolo Pass, you'll have the Lochsa River(?) on your left 'til Lowell. Beautiful drive & you hafta pay attention 'cause the views of the river/mtns are very distracting...

Between Ohio and Lewiston, US 12 crosses MacDonald Pass west of Helena MT, Ele.6320 feet. East of Butte MT (ele. 5767 feet)I-90 crosses Homestake Pass ele. 6329 feet. Going to be hard to get to Idaho and stay under 5200 feet.
