Thumbs up

We enjoyed our first rally last weekend, hosted by Mike & Lori Sanders at San Antonio Lake in Montery County, CA. The company was lovely, the FGT trailer open house enlightening. However, our girls (ages 6 & 9) wondered where the other kids were.

Honestly, I didn't expect to see many kids here, if any, so I wasn't greatly surprised to learn that there was only one child (an 11-month-old grandchild) at the rally. Still, it got me thinkin'... :

We'd like to attend another rally, and I'd be willing to help organize kid-friendly event(s). Is anyone else who travels with children (their own, or grandchildren or otherwise "borrowed" children) interested? If so, where are you located? How far would you consider traveling for such a kid-friendly rally? And how soon might we do it?!

Our South Dakota Rally in Hart Ranch is kid friendly...I will be traveling with mine, and there are lots of events in Rapid for Kids to do. I haven't actually taken a talley of kids, perhaps I should do that! Borrowed ones are welcome too! There is Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Bear Country, Reptile Gardens, parks, Chuck-E-Cheese, and then at Hart Ranch, lots of activities, playgrounds, even a dog park to run your dog!

We explored the Black Hills last fall and I absolutely agree - this is a FABULOUS family-friendly area! There's SOOOO much to do there, whether you're into natural sites, man-made monuments, good food or city life. Don't forget the Dinosaur Park on the ridge road in Rapid City, or walking with the presidents (statues) downtown, or the mines or local cafes with friendly LOCAL folks.

Hi Jen,

We have just started our FG journey (a change from tent camping). My husband and I travel with our two girls (ages 4 and 6) and our two boys (adorable, dedicated mutts). We are beginners and are still working out our kinks...but enjoying the training. We are planning a BIG trip this summer. Where were you thinking of a kid-friendly get together? Maybe we could fit it in.

Smiles,
Crystal

We've been Scampin with our two kids now 6 & 9 for 2.5 years, sometimes out for 30 days at a time. KOA's seem to be the best spots that we've had an abundance of other children for them to pal around with. Of course, Campland in San Diego is kid paradise, but the adults need a debriefing for a couple of days after leaving there.
The Quartzite gathering every year our kids are pretty much the only ones, but they love meeting all the egg owners, playing with Gina's Beagles and pallin around with David and Leslie.
We're planning on being at the Oregon gathering in July and there looks to be quite a few kids attending. Would love to have a "family" egg rally sometime if we could get enough of us and a central location for everyone.

Greg don't forget the kids bicycles.... leave extra socks at home if you have too, but don't forget the bikes! Bullard's State Park is a great place to ride and the park is so big you almost need "wheels" to get from one end to the other!

Awesome, Donna. Now that we have the new TV we're bringing the adult bikes too!
