Litres / 100 km makes comparison easier as in, I use 15/100 towing and 10/100 not towing.

I quickly whip out my handy calculator and Americanized he gets 15.6 MPG towing and 23.5 MPH not towing. But that takes a wee bit longer to do as its not a simple multiply by a fraction.

They're called millimetres and centimetres, kilometres, not fractions.
Regardless, I still give my weight in pounds and height in feet and inches. Grocery stores advertise prime rib etc. in price per pound, but when you go to buy it, it's packaged in kilograms.

You are far from the reality there, Robert. I have, and still do, deal with both sets of measurement. I have done a lot of surveying in the past, and have used both metric and imperial. Metric wins, hands down. Everything is in meters, and just uses decimals down to the millimeter (0.001m). I have surveyed in fractional inches, and what a pain that is. Even with imperial, for decades now most surveying is done in base ten feet, in that a foot is broken down in tenths, which makes it much easier. ie 10' 4 7/16" is 10.370 feet. I still have a chain that is in imperial tenths, though it has not seen use in near 40 years.

Dividing metric is never a fraction, but expressed in decimal form, no matter what the resultant.

It took a while to get used to measuring fuel economy in litres/100km, but it is real easy now that I use only that, and makes more sense to me too. If you reduce fuel consumption the measure goes down.

I remember one of my High School math teachers telling us that one day soon we would all be using the metric system. If the U.S. wanted to compete globally it would have to happen. He made it sound like we probably wouldn't use our current measuring system by college. I can still hear the collective groan by all the students. That was in 1966. Still waiting... I think it was a plot by Snap-on to sell tools.

Scientists and the US military make extensive use of the metric system. While I truly believe that metric makes more sense, I understand resistance to making the switch by anyone who has only used the English system. When you are accustomed to visualizing length in inches and distance in miles because that is all you have ever used, it is difficult to visualize what a centimeter or a kilometer is. Or if you are comfortable at 72° Fahrenheit, the equivalent Celsius temperature, 22°, just doesn’t click in your brain because your brain has always known that at 22° water turns to ice. IMHO, it is a mindset. Most of the younger Canadians I meet cannot mentally visualize English measurements while those of my advanced age who learned the English system before Canada made the switch can, because through everyday use they have become more comfortable with the metric system now in place. Honestly, if US citizens had learned and grown up with the metric system and were being told we would be changing to the English system, the resistance to change would be the same as it is whenever someone suggests the US should go metric.
