We cook almost everything, even at home on the stove and the BBQ, so you can imagine our surprise when we arrived at our destination last weekend and discovered the Weber Q didn't come with us.
I had just completed removing the Scamp stove in a remodel so we just had our Coleman, a pile of wood and a fire ring with a grate type setup. It had been a number of years since I had cooked over the ol open flame and we ended up rediscovering camp-fire cooking and had some of the best meals in a long time. We liked the coal roasted potatoes, corn and fire grilled meats so much we'll probably do some fire grillin in the future. Aside from the Dutch oven thingies anyone else still practicing the fine art of camp fire cooking?

I see you got that left arm thing mastered.
My grandmother always put her left hand on her hip when she wielded a spatula. She was a master in the kitchen.
I just dangle mine at my side... I don't do much cooking...

We're discovering pie irons, a kind of cast-iron clam shell thing on a pair of long handles. Pre-heat the iron, put a piece of bread on either side, ladle in some soup or stew or ham & cheese or whatever, trim off the excess bread and cook in the coals for two minutes.

It helps if the stuffing mix is warm and it's important to season the pie iron like you would any cast iron cookware.

We started using a small charcoal grill (haven't done this in many many years) been so used to a propane grill and then i saw this small good for two people Charcoal Grill " Weber Smokey Joe Grill" and wanted to give it a try..... I put one steak on the charcoal grill and one steak on a propane grill .....there was no comparison as the charcoal definately won out.... tried the same test with chicken wings and hamburgers and again charcoal won out. needless to say my weber charcoal grill is getting all the use and the propane grill is now my countertop. also tried a steak on a wood fire and that was definately the best with the charcoal/w Hickory briquettes coming in a close second.... the charcoal takes alot more to get ready and not as convenient as propane but it sure is worth it.

Hi: All... I do my best Q'n with "One arm tied behind my back". That way I have to use the tongs to turn stuff.

This is also good for making a special treat. Fill it with pie filling for a desert. The kids love it.

We always called them "pudgy pies". Must be a regional thing?
Anyway, I really like making the pizza pies and the dessert pies with pie filling.
