Garage for an Egg

Hey Everyone,

I'm in the process of having a new house built and am trying to get some measurements for the garage to shelter my future Egg when it is not being used.

Would you know how high I should have the garage door opening and ceiling for an Egg with an air conditioner unit and the popular increased ground clearance axles owners are using on their eggs such as Scamps or Escapes for example?

I'd call Casita or Escape, and see what they recommend.

Sounds like a 10' door. Especially with a roof top air conditioner. My Trillium 4500 is over 7', with nothing on the roof but a powered vent fan.

If you have an approach angle some need a door higher than the level RV height.

My little shop has a 9ft door and a 10ft ceiling.
Most any of the normal sized fiberglass trailers would fit easily.

Without A/C....
some of the oversized trailer heights are...
Escape 19/21) are... 8'6"
Escape 5.0 is ..........9'0"
Casita 17' is ............8'11"
Scamp 16' is ...........7'11"
Scamp 5er is ...........8'11"
These are official heights in stock trim without A/C.
I was surprised to see that the Casita 17' is advertized as the same
height as the Scamp 19 (fifth wheel)

Just as an FYI. I can put my Casita in my garage; however, I had to make sure I adjusted the upper limits for the screw drive to pull it up above the overhead beam, otherwise it was fine for a car but not for my camper. (no upper AC).

For new construction, if you can do it and make it right from an architectural/asthetic standpoint, then taller is better. Who knows in ten years what you may want to put in there ? The door on our barn is tall enough to drive the eigtheen wheeler in. You just never know.....just sayin' .......

I built my garage with 10' walls and a 9' door. I can just get my 17' Casita with A/C into the garage with an inch or two to spare. It is one of the reasons I haven't installed a lift kit or high-lift axle yet! One of these times I'm going to stop the Casita half way out of the door and go up and measure to find out my exact clearance so I can figure out mt lift options.

We purchased a metal 2-car shelter with 8 foot walls.
We also purchased a metal 2-car shelter with 10 foot walls.
My jon boat and travel trailer occupy the one with 10 foot walls.

Miranda, our 19' Escape with A/C used to reside in this barn with a 10' tall door. You can see the clearance. As George says, taller is better because you might want to get up there and do something that requires some space above. The Escape is a little over 9'.

Very few eggs fit under a common 7 foot door... how far beyond that you go depends on your specific situation. Floyd's list is a good starting point; Bigfoot trailers are likely also tall. In general, longer trailers are also taller (for a few good reasons).
