Gasoline

We just completed our 301st consecutive day, our longest time on the road. Since we headed off to PEI on our first Scamp trip last summer we have stayed in 92 different campgrounds, driveways, national and state parks, attended 3 FRV rallies, meeting many marvelous people, seeing wonders everywhere..... averaging about 3-4 days a stop.

I met an RVer who asked me about our expenses. I told him that we average about $12 a day for gasoline, averaging 22.5 mpg, spending about $3600 for this trip so far, now in our 301st day on the road.

Fuel prices have doubled for us over recent years and increased about 10-15% in the last 10 months, the reason I'd like to get one of those high mileage diesels and maybe push the tow mileage to 30 mpg.

We should be at the Scamp factory by the middle of Sept., getting new cushions and a new coupler. Glad to transmit any messages to the factory.

We continue merrily on our way, picking up our pace a little for the run home, averaging about 200 miles a day. Today we had an interesting drive, cutting out a good part of I-15 and I 90 by taking Rts 22 and 33 in ID and Rt 41 in MT. Both were excellent 2 lane roads with little traffic that ran thru farm country paralleling rivers with mountains on either side. Great ride.

We have had the best time, it seems we have been on the road for a really long time. The trip has been so varied it's hard to remember our early months.

Safe travels

Norm/Ginny,
That's an amazing feat. Glad to see it has been a safe one too.
Are you coming through North Dakota on the way to the Scamp factory?

Daniel,

We have to keep going. We had our first reminder that we're old at a wedding this weekend. They had a 'longest married, last standing dance' and we won at 48 years. The first time for us. We were actually surprised.

We'll be home for about 6 weeks and off to the road, FL and Texas this year. Ginny made me promise to take her back to a Texas FRV Rally and I want to camp in the Chirichaua Mts.....

I do wish I could adequately express how wonderful our trip has been; also it would be neat to show the look on the faces of all those that can't believe we've spent over 300 days in 92 square feet and have no scars, mostly just smiles and memories.....

Congratulations Norm & Ginny on your travels in the Scamp & in Life. We sure enjoyed meeting you two on your travels this year. Paula & I just finished 9 thousand miles in two months in our 13' Scamp to kick off our 40th, and it was a pleasurable experience.

If you're coming through North Dakota on U.S, 2 time your passage so you don't have to be anywhere near Williston at bedtime. Because of the huge oil boom, there are no campsites anywhere for a hundred miles or more (ask me how I know) and Walmart there doesn't allow use of the parking lot anymore. Because so many oil workers were living there, Walmart kicked them out.

I'm very interested in seeing how the increase in US production affects gas prices in North America over the next decade.

Bob,

We have driven across the country on Rt 2 in the past and loved the road (except for the down hill into Wenachee, WA. This year we are taking I-94 across because Backus is a timed destination. So far from Billings it's been a realitvely light traffic road.

Roy,

How will increases in oil effect Canadian production?

First, though there is a lot of oil in the USA unfortunately drilling relates to politics as much as economics.

Second, increased production, though possible takes decades, and what ever happens will not be a step function.

Third the world market is very large and growing, I doubt Canadian production will be dissrupted by American production.

I think there should be a special allocation to RVers...........
