Generator Honda 2000
Will a Honda 2000 generator run a 8000 BTU window air conditioner?

The Honda 2000 is, I believe, a 1600 watt generator with surge to 2000 watts. Do you have the AC? If so, the owners manual should list the specification, or there should be a label on the AC itself. I believe it will run the AC, but likely with little remaining capacity to run anything else.

It well might, looks like an average 8k AC is 740 watts, 7A running. Couldn't find starting draw.

The problem is whether it will run the AC depends on the start up current rating of the AC. Some larger 11,000 BTU ACs will start & run, particularly on cool days at sea level, while some smaller ones won't. There are too many variables to tell without actually trying it.
If I had to make a guess, I'd say it is likely that it will work, but I'd try to take a worst case (high altitude & hot day, restarting the AC immediately after it has run once) attempt at starting it with a borrowed generator.

Actually, one of my neighbors has an 8000 BTU room air conditioner in his work shed. We tried my Honda 2000 and the AC started and ran. However, different brands of air conditioners may not have the same amperage ratings, so it would be best to borrow a generator and run tests before buying one. That said, the Honda 3000 would be a better bet, although it is larger, heavier, and somewhat louder.

The Honda EU3000iS is actually a little quieter than the smaller Honda EU2000iS according to the manufacturer's website.

The 3000iS is quieter than the 2000iS but the other model 3000 is actually louder, according to a friend of mine who works for the local Honda dealer and sells them. It depends on which model of the 3000 watt generator you buy/have. IMHO, the 2000 watt generator is really on the small side for RV camping, but ideal for tent camping or tailgating. Personally, I rarely camp anywhere I don't have shore power as I consider generators to be "noise pollution" no matter how "quiet" they may be.

Try lugging a 3000is around with you, you'll know why folks make due with a 2000i.

... or two. The EU3000is is almost 3 times the weight of the EU2000i. Portability is not one of its virtues.

Good Morning! I have a Honda 2000 generator. We looked at the 3000 a couple of years ago, but I couldn't lift it so I bought the 2000. I was just curious if it would handle my air conditioner. I can't get the paperwork on the air conditioner as the camper is covered with tarps and buried in the snow.
Thanks for all the replies. It's great having a site with so many people willing to share their experiences and knowledge.

In Post #6 I saw a mention of 2160 starting AMPS... Fear not, it's more like 2160 watts. a factor of 120X.
That said, Honda 2000's routinely run roof top RV a/c units that are LESS than 9600 BTU and they won't reliably run the more common 13,500 BTU units.
