Going on Vacation is Hard Work

Decided the trailer needed a good wash and wax before heading to the beach. Found some rust spots, so had to sand those down and repaint. Still have half of the trailer left to wax.

Checked the lights on the trailer and the running lights didn't work. Eventually I tracked it down to a cut wire that goes from my tow tail light to the 7 pole connector. While checking it out found another wire that had the insulation worn off and was probably causing an intermittent short. Rewired both and I think my lights work now. Only checked voltage on connector, but I am reading voltage on the running light pin so I think it's fixed. This was another shoddy job done by the mechanic I have used in the past. He's a good guy, but his help sucks. The wires didn't have enough slack and were pulled tight against a sharp edge. Over time, the sharp edge cut right through the insulation.

I replaced the rear bumper on my tow a few years back. When I installed the replacement, I forgot to install the casing that holds the license plate light. The only way to get it on was to remove the bumper, install the holder, and then reinstall the bumper. License plate light works now.

I still need to hook up to trailer and make sure the running lights work, finish waxing the outside, clean the inside, put the bed back together, etc.

I topped off all the fluids, washed and vacuumed the tow, fixed the tailgate handle, installed a bluetooth device that let's me play music from cell phone on car radio, and put air in all the tires. I also topped off the water in the batteries. I had never put any water in my 2 RV batteries and they were almost dry. I'm showing a little over 13 v so I think they are OK. If not, I will know soon.

I'm going to wait for a few days for the flooding to go down before heading for Hatteras. I also can't figure out if the NPS campgrounds are open or closed. Nothing on the NPS site, but I did read somewhere that all NPS sites, including campgrounds, had closed on Friday.

All Hatteras NPS campgrounds are supposed to stay open until Monday after last weekend in November. October is my favorite time of year to go. I'm planning on going for about 10 days now and then going back again in October. October is usually sunny days with highs in low 80's and cool nights. Best fishing of year is in in the fall.

Hi: Huck... Sure isn't as easy as rafting in the old days.
It's good that you found all those little things before you hit the road. Our favorite camping time of year is spring!!!

I just love the title of this thread! Glad you found the issues ahead of time, good for you checking your rig out instead of just hitting the road!

There's an old poem about you called "Tony" by Gillette Burgess in his collection about Goops. A modern take is "Give a Mouse a Cookie" by Laura Numeroff. It'll make you feel better that you're not alone.
Have a great vacation!

Happy to say my running lights work. I usually don't get things to work on the 1st try!

Still another day or 2 prep to go.

Hi: emers382... I'm not sure anymore. Escapes are changing so fast I can't remember.
